Indeed the portability makes this thing expensive but just know that this is fairly cheap as far as gaming laptops are concerned. For ex, allianware's mx 15 cost either the same or more but is much weaker (depending on customization).

I have no idea why this thing is so umm... lower priced then most gaming notebooks.

Windows 7 - Asus G73jh-a1 - 17-720qm @ 1.6 GHz (2.8 GHz)(2.4ghz)(1.73ghz) - ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 @ 700/1000 (sometimes oc to 800/1100) - 8 gig ram

RE: New laptop for PCSX2 advice
Why is it everytime someone ask a question about laptops people feel the need to add the answer to another question altogether (laptop vs. desktop)? Obviously the guy/girl wants a laptop and is not seeking THAT opinion. If curious, it would be EXTREMELY easy to find that tid-bit all over the forums here, especially if one tried.

Really, the ATI being better all-around, I wouldn't be suprised (newer, I think). My opinion doesn't change, though.

And as far as those accusing laptops of being "heat monsters", I feel very sorry for your experiences. My laptop CPU has yet to hit 70c and GPU barely exceeds 50c, this is when playing PCSX2 (for hours) or any other demanding/high-end game. Now someone tell me that's too hot.

Yea, I guess the fact that desktops are better and stronger is just too glued to peoples head but it does get annoying sometimes.

Your exp is only with the gt230 and two cores right? OF course that thing isn't going to over heat. Its a nice system but shouldn't overheat because of that (or get hot).

I should of been more specific. I was referring to lappys with the gtx 280m or above (both ati xxxx or nvidia) with more cores or higher clock speeds then yours. Those you need to look out for. In other words, DONT GET DELL's allianware. OF course, that is my opinion.

EDIT: of course, this is coming from a person with no exp with these laptops. I've only Heard or seen videos that shows everything that I have said.

RE: New laptop for PCSX2 advice
I have a friend who bought alienware. They are kinda like macs in the way that they are way overpriced for their components. I hate comparing laptops to laptops anyways. This reminds me to run speedfan next time to see my temps on my laptop when Im playing pcsx2.

Laptop
Intel Core 2 Duo PM8600 @ 2.4 GHz
4 GB DDR3 1066 RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3670 512 MB

Desktop
AMD Phenom II x2 550 (unlocked to 4)@ 3.5ghz
4 GB DDR3 1600 RAM
Sapphire 5770 1GB

Except from what I hear, Apple support is amazing. There's certainly a premium you pay but it's worth it to many people. Alienware doesn't have stores in most major cities that will do repairs right then and there, or replace/upgrade your product at little to no cost if it's under warranty.

Say what you want about Mac users, but the hardware and OS integration are second to none.

Macs SUCK Tongue

Ok back on topic. Only reason why I prefer ati as of now is because its stronger and less power hungry. My guess is nvidia would be better for pcsx2 if the developers really have been using nvidia mostly. Thats only a guess though. As for non-pcsx2 stuff, ati all the way.

Also, If you want this mainly for pcsx2, its true that that 720m won't give you a lot of performance (2.4ghz dual core mode). I haven't been looking around for other laptops besides asus but there is the i7-620m (I think thats what it was called) at 3.33ghz single mode. So dual core mode turbo mode should be higher then 3.06 which is pretty darn nice.

If you want demanding, OC maybe?

Eh, I have had great customer support from dell ironically. And I'm ATI all the way nowadays...if you know anything about the 8600m gt problem, lets just say it makes me not like nvidia anymore lol.

M17x R2 has better cooling then the G73, Maybe a bit more expensive and heavier but you have to pay extra for something strong and not plastic. Also M17x R2 will MOST likely get 5870's and with them in XFire they will out beat the G73 Anyday.

Its true that the g73 isn't the strongest. I also hear sager will be making dual 5870 cards and I know sager beats asus in the cooling department. But its defiantly the most efficient and cost effective. I don't think you can find any other laptop out there that gives you 8 gigs of ram, two hardrives with an i7 and a 5870 ati card for less then $1645. Of course, if a mobile power house is what one wants, then I would wait for sager.

Are the m15x and m17x designs the same? If so, I find it hard to believe they have a better cooling system. I've heard way too many complaints about the m15x in so many different forums that I didn't bother with it. Overheating was an issue, and they had this issue with the return key and/or the enter key where they couldn't get pass a game screen where you have to hit enter to continue. Also, the very front gets pretty darn warm. Just did a random google HERE dating back in 2008 and HERE dating in 2010. You can check notebook check forums for in depth problems. Sry, but imo, if they had so many issues since 08, why bother?

Issues in m15x have no effects on the m17x, The m15x uses 2 fans to the 3 the M17x uses. Due to M15x only using one card. And no The m15x and m17x are NOT designed the same. I know the m15x has issues, Throttling being the worse of them. The new refresh of the m17x did have this as well But it was fixed within a week of it being fully released. I also agree that Sager has the best cooling system.
