PCSX2 Optimizing
#1
I've been using PCSX2 for awhile now and most of my games are playable except the few I really do want to play. Shadow Of The Colossus plays at around 17-22 FPS and Need For Speed Most Wanted during menus is around 28-31FPS and in game after messing around with some settings is running at 35-38FPS. I'm unsure of what other settings I can change to try and get some speed ups so I made this thread to see what's safe to mess with without having to default everything after messing something up

This comes up in the console after booting up PCSX2 if it helps
Host Machine Init:
Operating System = Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Edition Service Pack 1 (build 7601), 64-bit
Physical RAM = 6125 MB
CPU name = Intel® Core™ i5-2430M CPU @ 2.40GHz
Vendor/Model = GenuineIntel (stepping 07)
CPU speed = 2.393 ghz (4 logical threads)
x86PType = Standard OEM
x86Flags = bfebfbff 1fbae3bf
x86EFlags = 28100000

x86 Features Detected:
MMX.. SSE.. SSE2.. SSE3.. SSSE3.. SSE4.1.. SSE4.2.. AVX
PCSX2 version PCSX2 1.0.0.r5350 - compiled on Aug 1 2012
Non default settings (At least the ones I can remember) are MTVU, Allow 8-bit textures, renderer is Direct3D11 Hardware I don't remember if that's default or not, disable effects processing, my interpolation setting is at 0 because it said fastest

And I can upload Speccy screenshots of my laptop (Yeah I know this is probably why) specs. I know I definitely need a better processor to emulate a PS2 but I'm hoping there's a different solution besides buying a new computer

1- keep in mind 2.4 Ghz is a bit low for pcsx2
2- what is your GPU ?
3- Dunno about NFSU, but i'd say thare's not much you can do apart from using speedhacks moderatly (MTVU hack is a "must use")
4- About SotC, Vu cycle stealing speedhack works pretty well with this game. But think about disabling MTVU hack, then.
CPU : AMD Ryzen 7 3800X
Mobo : Asus PRIME B450-PLUS
GPU : NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070
RAM : 16 Go

Would lowering my renderer from Direct3D11 down to something else provide any FPS boosts or no?

no.
lowering the internal res may help, though.
keep native res, and if not enough, try setting it to 256*256

Damn that didn't help either. I guess I'll just have to survive not playing those games on my computer. Gotta dust off the PS2 again
Thanks for your help though
