PCSX2 cheats ... I just don't get it
I've got my pnatch file all sorted out, for example Persona 4, and check off Enable Cheats, no cheats. I've gone over several guides now. Am I missing something like assigning button context? I don't understand.

RE: PCSX2 cheats ... I just don't get it
If you "check off" the option to enable cheats, then you're turning them off, soo it's obvious they will not work.;]

Generaly most common problems:
-wrong Cheats(you have to have ones for your own game version and converted/created correctly),
-file in wrong folder(have to be inside "cheats" subfolder inside pcsx2 dir),
-file incorrectly named(format is game_crc.pnach, it must be your own game CRC code - which can be seen in pcsx2 log after running the game for example, and also it cannot have any hidden extenshion ie. commonly added in windows when improperly saving as text file ".txt" which by default is hidden),
-pcsx2 also doesn't update the cheats automatically, you either have to move a slider in pcsx2 log window or restart/reload the game to see "XX cheats loaded" message to ensure they're updated properly.

One of the list is most likely the case(assuming they aren't working if you check the option ON;]).

RE: PCSX2 cheats ... I just don't get it
This shows up if there's no file to cheat with in PCSX2 and cheats are enabled:
Quote:[wx] can't open file 'cheats\658597e2.pnach' (error 2: the system cannot find the file specified.)
Cheats not enabled? it's still easy to find. Look in the console when you start the game:
Quote:(IsoFS) Block 0x10: Primary partition info.
(SYSTEM.CNF) Detected PS2 Disc = cdrom0:\SLPS_250.88;1
(SYSTEM.CNF) Software version = 1.00
(SYSTEM.CNF) Disc region type = NTSC
(IsoFS) Block 0x10: Primary partition info.
Initializing Elf: 4730008 bytes
ELF (cdrom0:\SLPS_250.88;1) CRC=0x658597E2, EntryPoint=0x00100008
(IsoFS) Block 0x10: Primary partition info.
(SYSTEM.CNF) Detected PS2 Disc = cdrom0:\SLPS_250.88;1
(SYSTEM.CNF) Software version = 1.00
(SYSTEM.CNF) Disc region type = NTSC
Well, now we have our CRC (658597e2) so it's time to make our patch. This is what it should look like:
Code:
gametitle=Final Fantasy 10 International
comment=Infinate Gil
patch=1,EE,2031CE98,word,1DCD6500
This is a great place to make use of the "Hex" checkbox, input the value you wish to convert, check "Hex" and cheat engine will do the rest, paste the value into your patch file.

name this file 658597e2.pnach and put it in the CHEATS folder of pcsx2 (also be sure to enable cheats in PCSX2's Gui)

This is pulled form my guide in my signature (aka me being slightly lazy)

Quote:-pcsx2 also doesn't update the cheats automatically, you either have to move a slider in pcsx2 log window or restart/reload the game to see "XX cheats loaded" message to ensure they're updated properly.
You only need to close and reopen the GS window, a complete restart is not needed. rebooting ANY plugin will cause a "soft" reset on PCSX2

RE: PCSX2 cheats ... I just don't get it
Oddly enough nothing appears on the console window about cheats either.

SVN version does not matter, it has been there since 1888

RE: PCSX2 cheats ... I just don't get it
Oh Saiki.. Saiki;] everyone knows you love to show as a guru of some sort, but I beg you, please read at least those parts you quote before replying to them. I don't say anywhere full restart is absolutely needed, and I do point into two even easier methods than your restarting pluging(reloading = savestate/loadstate = works and requires 2 keys to press, one if already having save / moving the slider in pcsx2 log = instant update with 1 click;]). Please just add your way without quoting the person next time, thank you for the future.:]
Oh and yeah just in case you didn't notice, the messages you posted as something which should show when 'no pnach file could be found' changed long ago in svn.;P

@Op svn versions when not detecting cheats and cheats are activated shows a message:
"No cheats found. Resuming execution without cheats..."
Older ones show the thing like shown from that outdated guide;].

Anyway otherwise both new and older versions would post amount of cheats activated, there is a limit I forgot exactly how big of how many cheats per game can be activated at once, but I made pnach out of your cheats and it loaded just fine:
Code:
Cheats found!
comment: Patches by bagus
Cheats Loaded: 222
Some message would show even if you would have incorrect game version, as pcsx2 cannot really tell the difference between proper and improper codes like that as long as they're in correct format. As long as cheats are enabled you would always get some message about them, even if they couldn't be found...

And here we return to your first words in this thread. System>Enable cheats must be "checked on", not off;]. It must have a tick to be activated.

=====
Unless you use really ancient version like 0.9.6 or older, which had different pnach file usage, and frankly I have no clue now how it was and what messages it was showing and am lazy to check couse it's not even supported anymore. In case you do use any ancient one, couse I don't actually see you posting version of pcsx2 you're using, please just update to latest stable or svn version, don't use outdated ones nor downloads from any external sites as both ancient versions and unofficial builds aren't supported here and often simply broken.

Everything seems to be in order. Console even says cheats loaded and they still don't work.

Quote:-pcsx2 also doesn't update the cheats automatically, you either have to move a slider in pcsx2 log window or restart/reload the game to see "XX cheats loaded" message to ensure they're updated properly.

Elaborate console tells me
Cheats found!
Cheats Loaded: 8

What is this slider you speak of?

Let me point this out. If I said "you need to restart your desktop to make X,Y, or Z apply", would you think about just logging out and back in? Or would your fingers instantly go after the restart button?
Also, loading a state to enable cheats is a bad idea, you want the (I'm wording this carefully) PS2 to reprocess the entire RAM, and load it anew with these modifications. Loading a state does not always give a welcomed result when cheating, and can cause problems later on

(also I was unaware of the cheats change, I don't use cheats often. other method still applies)

FF12 is guarded against cheating. It will be difficult to do so, make sure for one that your master code is on and working properly.

Sliders are in emulation settings in PCSX2, it's where you find presets and other features to change speed/compatibility for games

For the sake of example we're talking about Persona 4 since that's all I have cheats for right now.

The only sliders in the emulation config are for speedhacks unless I'm missing something. If not which slider should I be looking at?
