PCSX2 crashes when I try to play games.
#1
So I was trying to use pcsx2 on my laptop, and since my laptop is crap, it needed to be a less demanding game like Mana Khemia.
So, I start the game, and on the title screen, the game crashes, my screen goes black and after a while, it comes back again flickering and glitching like crazy.
It goes away once I press ESC to close the game window.
I've tried 2 versions of PCSX2 (0.9.7 r3596 and 0.9.8), and it was the same with both.
Now, I know my graphics card is crap, which could be why it doesn't work that well, but I've been able to play the same game on this computer before. Once I upgraded to Windows 7, this happened.
Does anyone know what's wrong?

EDIT: Oh, and also, it might be worth mentioning... After getting Windows 7, the game actually runs a LOT faster.
The intro cutscene was at around 20-25 FPS before, and now it's 60 FPS, with only a few hiccups at times.
But that doesn't mean anything to me if I can't play the game itself... >_<

Have you tried a different game than Mana Khemia?

What are the specs of your laptop, Yoshi?

I have tried a different one. Mana Khemia 2 and Atelier Iris. Made by the same developer.
My laptop really can't take any other games. Tongue

The specs are...
Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.1GHz
Mobile Intel 45 Express Chipset Family
2GB RAM

Aren't the Intel drivers know to be really buggy when used with PCSX2?

Dunno if it's a Win 7 specific thing that breaks PCSX2 with Intel, though.

That could be why.
I tried turning on DX9 mode instead of DX10 mode and it helped. But then the game runs slow instead. >_<
It used to work though. That's what puzzles me.

Well, you said it didn't work when you upgraded to Win7?

Did you upgrade from Windows XP? It could be very well that the game doesn't work well with DX10 and DX11 and instead it works with DX9, since Windows XP doesn't support either DX10 or 11.

You know, that's probably it!
Though it runs slower now than it used to.
But since they're RPG's, it works as long as I separate the audio and the video.
I really need my new computer soon... xD
Thanks for helping anyway.

Doesn't Windows 7 have a desktop theme that is very GPU-heavy? I wouldn't know because I have Windows XP, but I believe that theme can be disabled, allowing your GPU to work more effectively.
