PCSX2 for Debian/Ubuntu
Here's what you need to do to get PCSX2 installed in Jessie. From what I know this method however will probably update a lot of other packages to stretch, so do it at your own risk. Personally I'm using ubuntu so I'm not exactly sure whether it will work, but if you are really desperate to get pcsx2 running then you can give it a go. You'll probably need to update to stretch though like gregory said.. So if it doesn't work update to stretch.

In terminal
Code:
sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list
Add this line in sources.list
Code:
deb http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian stretch main
Save with ctrl+x

Then
Code:
sudo apt-get update
And finally
Code:
sudo apt-get install pcsx2

And thanks gregory for the awesome Ubuntu support. (plz make Ratchet working Closedeyes   Laugh )

I tried this method and removed the stretch repo from list after installing PCSX2.

Sound is a little clunky.

Is there any other safer way of installing PCSX2 on Debian Jessie?

Not Ppa but own debian package (testing/sid).
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-cache search pcsx2
sudo apt-get install ...

(or use a gui)

Hello there. New to the forum, but I've done about 15-16 hours worth of tinkering with this thing over the last week and I am having trouble assessing if the machine I am running PCSX2 on is simply too weak or if I am missing something with configuration. I'd also like to run this with SSE3 instructions since it's a Bobcat architecture and can support those extensions.

I have tried the catalyst drivers. I am currently using the proprietary ones that Xubuntu 15.10 has available in the "Additional Drivers" section. Both seem to yeild the same result. Playing Tekken 5, the machine drops to 3%. It's grinding to a friggin' halt. I am also using the microcode proprietary drivers as well, so additional instruction set support might help address the situation.

I tried upping the settings in speed hacks ( 2 / 2 respectively). I tried the level 5 preset. It's just getting a huge slowdown somewhere and I'm not sure what, as the minimum recommended hardware in another thread I read has this machine roughly in line with what is needed.

Can you shed some light on this? A copy/paste of an lspci from the PC in question (Gateway NV55S) is below. it has 8GB of ram and a Kingston 120GB SSD in it as well, so that's something else that makes me wonder why the slowdown and frowny faces and dead unicorns and whatnot.
