RE: PCSX2 on Android
mSo, because of the differences of PC and Android from various hardware and resources, the PCSX2 team wouldn't be able to be possible from these particular devs such as yourself?

There is also a x86 Intel Atom SoC that is already released (?), and it has a 1.8-2GHz dual core processor. It's still a SoC, but it is x86 architecture so would that mean that it would be easier to code?

And omnikam, it used to be $5.99 Wink

Actually, the Microsoft Surface will probably be the most portable device yet, using a Core i5 processor, and packed into a small tablet. And best of that it already runs x86 with Windows 8 Smile

RE: PCSX2 on Android
I don't think it is a lucrative issue look I run a full system completey free Wink. Besides, they probably uses existing free PS emulator (at least for reference). I would prefer if those guys make money with pubs and keep the code open source. I'm ashamed that people think android == linux == free system but most application are closed source in the end...

Yes, I forgot the intel SoC (mono-core (HT doesn't count) ). I don't think you will need to code somethings for this one (or very little). It will worth to benchmark it (on atom nettop for example). It would still need some performance tunings. From an hardware point of view, I hope we didn't go to x86 everywhere. From a SW point of view it would become easier.

What I wanted to say (personal opinion), why anybody will want to code a port of PCSX2 (several monthes, maybe few years of dev) and optimize for the current platform when
1/ current platform will be too slow
2/ replaced by a new ARM architecure
3/ or worst (best?) completely dropped and replaced by X86 (which is mostly done)
IIRC others devs have concerned about the "usability" of the smartphone as a PS2.

Don't know the number but 1 Atom core = 1/2 sandy bridge core? With luck they will able to fit a 2nd real core @14 nm. Let's hope they make it more efficient next time, so 1A = 0.6 (0.7) SB in @10nm. So in 4 years best case, you can get a 1.2-1.4 core SB@2GHz CPU in your smartphone not sure it will be enough.

RE: PCSX2 on Android
Thanks for the info Smile

I bet if you made a PS2 emulator for Android, even if it didn't run very well on today's ARM or even tomorrow's ARM, you could put it on the play store for $10 and it will sell like hotcakes Smile lol, just playing with you guys.

I just really like the idea of the emulator on Android, even if it can't run on today's machines we always can rely on the future Smile

RE: PCSX2 on Android
Ok, I have to ask this:

If someone were to port PCSX2 to Android, do they have to learn the languages like C and C++ from PCSX2 as well as Java? I have no idea of porting or developing in general... Can someone give me a quick run down?

EDIT: DUR, you can't port PCSX2 to ARM right? But you can for a x86 processor like the Intel Atom that is releasing into Androids? Sorry, I'm just a dumb freshman...

RE: PCSX2 on Android
IMHO, if someone want to port PCSX2 it won't need to learn C++ neither JAVA because it would already be an expert developer Wink

Intel SoC port will still be a lots of work, you need to port to opengl ES too. My previous PC (10 years old) was faster than the current (future) Atom SoC (same for ARM SoC for that matter) !!!

On ARM SoC, current gui (wxwidget2.8) must be completely redone (at least port to 3.0 not sure it will support arm). Here an article of the future linux port of ARM64 bits : http://lwn.net/Articles/506148/
They said that the architecture is a complete overhaul and they plan to leave old cruft.

RE: PCSX2 on Android
An expert developer? So you mean he has to be very skilled in porting already?

I'm going to start to learn Java, but others tecommend to start with C. What do you think I should learn first? By learning Java, I can make Android applications.

RE: PCSX2 on Android
a very important question :

What about the BIOS the one that have to port PCSX2 have to write a replacement code of a PS2 BIOS ( write his own BIOS )

because we can't simply ask people to have a PS2 and dump it copy it to their PC and into their phone not to mention it will encourge pariacy even more

considering the extra complexity Sad

and that's alone will case trouble with Sony unless you cut them in Tongue

RE: PCSX2 on Android
Well, can't people just dump their BIOS from their own console?

RE: PCSX2 on Android
I don't think if PCSX2 got ported the normal PS2 BIOS will be required maybe an ARM BIOS Tongue
