PCSX2 performance using a Mid-End PC
#1
Hello! This is my first thread here, in chatterbox, and it's just a simple thread to show and discuss about the performance of this great emulator (Beta 1888) on Mid-End computers, like mine. I made this thread to show that you don't need a MEGAHYPER computer to play games at full speed. You should be saying: Yeah, what game?, and I'll be honest, I just play Naruto Accel 2 because I only wanna play it, maybe later I'll make a video playing a heavier game, when I want to play one Tongue2. Well, here's the information about my computer and emulator's config.:

Here's the video:
Me playing Naruto Narutimate Accel 2:

Note: The video looks a little laggy. >-<

I know, you can't see the FPS, my bad, but it's allways between 45-65 FPS while playing and 60-68 FPS (wut) on menus.

Well, I don't have much more to say, so, let's talk about it n.n
Yeah, my english sucks ._______.

narutimate accel 2 That's a game that i like to play to kill time(vs cpu harderst difficulty Tongue). yes my pc can also play some games too Tongue but i was wandering if you could tell me how you overclocked your cpu(@3ghz) , found some forums on Google but nothing with specific instructions.

haha...

Erald, just go to the BIOS and increase FSB Tongue

yes about the fsb it would only let me go up to 2800 mhz(or a bit more) otherwise windows couldn't boot at all but will try that again hoping for more succes Smile

Wrong. FSB is intel, in AMD its HT or something like that. I guess you need lower memory multiplier

@Erald: You need to adjust your voltages as well (that includes CPU, northbridge or MCH, and RAM). Also, watch your RAM clock and timings, since that can affect overclocking stability.

Overclocking is a very...uh...complicated process that will probably take several tries to get it right. But when you finally hit that sweet spot, it's totally worth the effort.
Nappa: Vegeta! What does the scouter say about his power level?
Vegeta: It's...one thousand and six.
Nappa: Wh-...really?
Vegeta: Yeah! Beat him up Nappa!
Nappa: Yay!

Ignore this ^^.

And OP, I'm sure you've upped your voltages? 1.4V.. I'm 1.35V at 3.2GHZ, but then again it's 45nm vs 90/65nm (Dependant on revision).

Elwin: actually... you're wrong. FSB is for BOTH... because the front side bus is the same thing no matter who makes the motherboard or processor.

The HT is what determines the actual bandwidth, but the HT is set by the front side bus as well (it has it's own multiplier ranging from 5-14x, depending on mobo and processor. In his case, it's most likely set to 5x)

He may need to lower his HT clock to 4x as well as his memory. I had a similar processor than his though and I couldn't get it past 2.9ghz (well, more like 2.85ish)

I really don't suggest messing with the voltage of ANY of your components till you have good aftermarket cooling and a true understanding of what you're doing. You aren't likely to damage your hardware just overclocking... but the second you start upping the voltage is when you start to really run the risk of damaging things.

I can run like 1.65V into my PII on my cooling, although recently it's messed up and temperatures have seemingly rissen 10C overnight..
