actually the 1gb is exactly in the middle of 5830 and 5850 and it has almost the price of 5830 so winner xD Tongue and with the card being maybe the best overclocker in the market thats all someone needs Wink

as for the temps they are 15-17c lower than 5830 and 5850 (and around 12-14 for 5770) with the same noise levels! also dont forget that ati has months to even up by a little the performance of their cards with their drivers something that nvidia does every 2 weeks with the new drivers!

i kinda like nvidia but i have an ati card so i am for the best thing for my money and right now in all the market its the 1gb gtx 460

Until very recently, you couldn't get the HD5830 for $200 without rebates. Normal price is $230. There wasn't any decent choice for the $200-250 price range. You're usually better off going with the $170 HD5770 or $280 HD5850. While the GTX 460 768MB wouldn't be my choice, I think the 1GB version strikes a very good balance.

I had no idea that there is other version of gtx 460 than 1gb and tests shows that it performs bit slower than 5830 ati, specially the overclocked versions from his or asus. Sure that if you will take slower 5830 on the market and most overcloked gtx 460, and choose games that got few fps more on nvidia cards you will get result that this place gtx 460 between 5830 and 5850 because of this few fps advantage over 5830 but where is the sense of doing something like that?

Very nice performance/price for that GTX 460, seems faster than GTX 275 too which is pretty good for the price and should be competing with the HD 57xx on performance/price ratio while being much faster so I guess there's finally a worth mid-high DX11 card to look for.

That 768mb one should have been named different I think... the performance looks more like it belongs to a GTX 455 or something.

I just hope they come up with a good sub $150 card after that :P

well if you are looking at vantage results yes its below 5830 but in gaming is mostly in the middle of 5830 and 5850 as i said and thats what counts! nobody takes slower 5830 and most oc'ed 460 this is a result of the reference models ati and nvidia released with nothing modded or edited. just look at the GeForce gtx 460 1gb when you look at the boards and not the other ones.

there is not even a single game that gtx 460 1gb is slower than 5830 and in most games the 768mb edition is at the same level as 5830.

also i putted more aspects in the quality of the card like very lower temps than the ati cards, they have even the same with the best cooled card ati ever released, the HIS 5850 iCooler Turbo, that is allot more expensive than the normal card cause of big custom cooler and oc.

as for overclocking potential they are top as you can see cause most of the times they reached a gtx470 (470 out performs 5850 easy...) on safe volts = quality product

and they use less watts than a 5830 also Tongue

+better drivers as we can see from the present and the last 6 months.

well probably you need to read the whole article to better understand it... cause its the only really good card nvidia made this year and outperforms everything Tongue (keep in mind this card was made to go against 5770 but it outperforms a 5830 and that says many... nvidia just needed some time to fix the problems in fermi and now you see the results)

sorry for the huge post guys Smile

Thanks for all the info, guys!
I think I'm going to go with the eVGA GTX 460 (1024 MB) EE (External Exhaust) version.
It looks like a safe bet, because it is designed to exhaust most of the hot air outta the case, and since I'm gonna be overclocking that i5 to around 4 GHz, I'd like to keep the innards of my case as cool as possible.
Although, I might cut some of those bars off of the exhaust plate, to increase airflow.
If it's not fast enough at stock speeds, I'll try overclocking it.

I'm just not sure if I should get the stock speed version, or the moderately pre-overclocked one.

Here are some links to the two different 1 GB versions from evga:
$250 Overclocked [Link] 01G-P3-1373-AR
$240 Stock Speed [Link] 01G-P3-1371-AR

Code:
.            GPU       Shader      RAM         Memory
.            Speed     Clock       Speed       Bandwidth
---------------------------------------------------------
Overclocked  763 Mhz   1,526 MHz   3,800 MHz   121.6 GB/s
---------------------------------------------------------
Standard     675 Mhz   1,350 MHz   3,600 MHz   115.2 GB/s
---------------------------------------------------------

Diffrences    88 MHz     176 MHz   200 MHz     6.4 GB/s

I've got almost enough Evga Bucks saved up (from some RMAs in the past on some old AGP video cards! Biggrin) for the either one. I just gotta add some $ with it from a credit card (easily doable).
I'd buy one of them today, if I could, but unfortunately, they don't allow Evga Bucks to be redeemed during the pre-order process, so I have to wait until they get listed as regular sale items.

well if you want and can OC it yourself then get the normal one. if you dont want to do it or you dont care for those 10 bucks then go for the OC one. low chances the oc'ed ones are maybe of better quality? (i cant know, just a gues!).

Hehe, yeah, I can overclock either one myself.
The first one (of those two) to transition out of backorder/preorder status, will be the one I'm gonna get.

It'll be a while before I buy the rest of this build that you all helped me to design; the i5 750 CPU, new Motherboard, (2 x 2 GB) 4 GB RAM, Gigantic CPU Cooler, and Win 7 64-bit, but I do need a new graphics card soon anyway, as the fan on my current one is akin to a screeching banshee. Ohmy

I'll be sure to post my results after I get everything put together. Cool

Most reviews I've seen [H]ocp, Tom's, Hexus etc... put the 460 above the 5830, especially the 1gb version. The 5830 will need to come down maybe $20 before I can recommend it to anyone really.

It'll be an awesome rig, JTD.
Would be nice if you kept the ordering list with links or smth, so we can recommend exactly this
build to new people that ask what to buy.
It has everything as I'd recommend it right now, too Tongue2
