PS3 Jailbreak
#1
Yes. That's right. It's finally arrived. A USB dongle that jailbreaks a PS3. Allowing you to install .pkg files that enable a backup loader. Which means, you can back up a Rock Band 2 game onto your hard drive, put in God of War 3, run the program, and play Rock Band 2 with God of War 3 disc in the system.

How this works is you plug the USB dongle into the PS3. You press the power button then press the eject button right after. This activated the USB dongle and puts the PS3 into developer mode, which allows the installation of .pkg files.

Release date is August 27, 2010. The price is $150. Do you guys think it's worth it?

NOTE: Jailbreaking is not considered illegal so I don't see any reason as to why this thread should be closed.

where's the proof it goes into dev mode? It's just a kernel exploit, and a LONG waited one. now if only people come come up with something like that for the PSP lol

The PSP has been hackable for a long time.

The proof is at some site. The makers explain how it works.

People are overstating it's significance really. At the moment it's like getting admin access to windows. Sure it's nice and lets you run back ups and homebrew. but it's nowhere near as resilient as CFW people are confusing it for. Just like when an admin notices an unauthorized person snooping about they can boot them. So basically at this point it's a dead end unless Sony left some backdoors from the game OS into the lower levels of the system that they couldn't get before.

Does this open up the emulation possibilities?

Nobodies perfect, it's early days, and you never know. It's like anything, sony updates and says "it's for security and bug fixes" which is true sometimes, but waht security do they really need when the device has never been hacked and there isn't viruses or anything? To cover their bloddy asses! lol
What I see is a key, you just have to find the right dorr to fit that key and presto! PS2 on PS3 Laugh

Also it's better to just wait, since there's enough rumours of software that does the same which u can just throw on any USB Stick not to mention Clones are incoming, making the price drop pretty much. Since here it costs 130 Euro's and is only available from September 1st and since u have to use an external Hard Drive to make up the costs, Since Games of the PS3 are atleast 10 GByte large thus it's kinda expensive to buy a blu-ray burner + the discs.

I think this is big and indeed opens the door for all kinds of piracy backups.

This should open the doors to a lot of things, including emulation. Hell there might even be a homebrew channel like the Wii has.

News update:

The jailbreak for the PS3 might even become usable through cracked psps.

Good news for future "backup users" who own a psp with CFW (Custom Firmware).
