Persona 4 (NTSC)?
#1
Hello, everyone. I'm kinda new to PS2 emulation, and would like some info. Thanks a lot for any help. Laugh

My PC is:
Intel Core i3-530 2.93GHz
2GB DDR3 RAM
GeForce 8400GS 128MB
EDIT: I forgot to add Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit. Just to show that in case it matters, I have DX10. Smile

Now this is an okay PC for gaming, but I know PS2 emulation demands a lot more. Can someone tell me whether I'd be able to play Persona 4 on this? If it helps, my PS2 BIOS runs easily at 59-60fps. But when a game is loaded, I don't know what'll happen. I haven't tried any yet.

And, should I disable hyperthreading on my CPU?

Your cpu is good and has potential for mild overclock to get full speed in most games except you wont no matter how high you overclock because your video card is outdated, pcsx2 and most modern pc games require something with 1gb you got only 128mb, thats not going to work, ram is enough for pcsx2 (4GB for pc games), in short you need to change your video card, get 2GB more ram, and overclock to around 3.5ghz and you will have very good gaming pc. But just for pcsx2 you dont need to upgrade ram, just overclock and new gpu, i recommend HD6850 http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLis...0HD%206850 if you can afford it its the best performance for the price deal, if not HD5750 http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLis...0HD%205750 its cheaper but will run pcsx2 fine, keep in mind it also depend on what resolution you play my 5770 has no problem with 1080p running pcsx2.

And yes keep hyperthreading on im not sure how much it helps with pcsx2 but it does help a lot with multitasking and games that use all cores.

Thanks for the reply. Smile
When I said "okay" PC for gaming, I really meant just "okay". I'm a minimum requirements kinda gamer. Too poor for anything else. Tongue
I can get 30FPS on low to medium settings at 1024x768, and I'm happy with that. Laugh

Anyway, my friend's giving me his Persona 4 copy today, so will be trying it out anyway. I'll be glad if someone can tell me what kind of settings are best for this game. (Stuff like which graphics plugin to use, DX9 or 10, etc.) Smile

Oh, and if I play at native resolution, will it look like crap on a 17" LCD?

With that gpu you will be forced to play on native, probably using dx9 and it will look like crap, im surprised to see that pc with such a good cpu has such crappy gpu and only 2gb ram, did you buy it from the store or build it yourself? like i said with about $250-$300 you can get hd6870 or hd6850 and 4gb more ram, overclock to about 3.5ghz and you pc will run any ps2 or pc game on high graphics

and the 32-bit
2 GB is sufficient
3.2 GB is only usable for the 32
an HD 5850 will do nicely (:
the cpu limit the power of the gpu with a Scythe Mugen II 4 ghz possible

@vdgamer: I built it myself, yeah. GPU came from my old P4. Didn't go for 4GB cause then I'd have to upgrade to 64bit. Would probably need to upgrade on both fronts soon. Smile
Will try on native res. If too crappy, I'll just dust off my PS2. Main reason to use PCSX2 is cause the TV is being hogged by mom usually, so can't play a long game like Persona 4. But I'll find a way. Laugh
Thanks for the help. Smile
@cloud50: Thanks. Smile
Though I'm kinda scared to overclock cause my RAM is 1333MHz. I know it's possible, but too lazy to study everything. Tongue

of course it's possible i3 530 have a multiplier x22 for 4 ghz
you can put 20x200 with a ratio of 2:6 which gives 200x6 1200 Mhz(ddr3
or small oc 155x22 3410 ration 2:8 155x8 1240 mhz ddr3

Thanks for the info. Will try it out if I get a cooler. Smile

So, I got the game, and played for little over two hours. Playing on native res with DX10 hardware mode, and except for the jagged edges, the game looks fine. (Though at first it seemed to me that I have that famous texture flicker issue. But after the very first encounter on the ground when Dojima picks me up, I didn't come across it again.)
Always above 55FPS so far. I think I'll stick to this instead of wrestling with mom for control over the TV. Laugh

Btw, in case I get stuck somewhere due to very low FPS, is there a way for me to transfer the saves to my PS2 memcard to continue from there?

you had to try a slight oc the cpu with a vcore of 1.15 below that could give a little boost to the emulation
