Problems with GSdx
#1
I'm having a problem running FFXII with GSdx. I can get the game to boot up and run fine (though a bit slow) with ZeroGS, but when I attempt to boot (anything, not just FFXII) with GSdx, I get a crash to desktop. I'll post the error message from windows' log at the end of this post.

My settings within both GSdx and ZeroGS are default. I have the newest DirectX (Nov 2008) installed and have updated my video driver (nVidia 7600 GT). I have an AMD Athlon 64 3200+ CPU.

If anyone can give me some suggestions, I'd be thrilled. I'd rather not play the game with ZeroGS as it is slow to being unplayable. There is the distinct possibility that my CPU is just not fast enough to handle this properly, but I'm thinking that perhaps GSdx (if working) would handle things more efficiently and perhaps faster. But I could be wrong. If any screenshots or more info is needed, let me know and I'll post.

3200+ is too slow to play any game. Try running the game with NATIVE enabled or use software mode in GSdx

It's unlikely crashing has anything to do with native res or software mode, because ff12 works fine with any gsdx settings Smile
But really, XP 64 3200+ is like very slow, I had this proc about 5 years ago...

Whatever plugins do you use both gsdx or zeroGS you can not play many games in decent speed. Upgrade entairly your computer, this is only an option to play pcsx2 properly.

>> Emulation speed differs for each game. There will be some you can run fast easily, but others will simply require more powerfull hardware <<.

GSdx should run that game fine with xp64 3200, with speedhacks etc.. you should get full speed no problem 90% of the time in the non-crowded areas.
No need to use zerogs for that game. I'd recommend checking native resolution in the video plugin options if you havn't already as well.

Maybe some of you don't understand. I can run the game FINE with ZeroGS, just a little bit slow. I'm not complaining about the speed, I'm having problems getting GSdx to RUN. It just crashes to desktop, no speed worries at the desktop eh?

Had that CPU 5 years ago? So did I! I don't need to upgrade my PC, I don't game that much, I just want to try to get GSdx working. Lets ignore the speed issues, lets focus on the crash. I realize that it may run slow, I just want to try to get GSdx to run properly.

I have tried software mode, again, crash to desktop. I have tried Pixel Shader v2 and v3, both crash to desktop. I am using the supported SSE2, crash.

Okay, just now booted up and it works. I have no clue why. I have changed absolutely nothing, but it works. Pretty decent speed as well. Now, I need to track down these speedhacks you mentioned.

Thanks to those users who provided worthwhile posts. I appreciate the quick responses.

Okay, with speedhacks enabled, I have almost a perfect framerate. Thanks to those who helped! Running about 90-100% all the time so far.

Amazing what you can do with old tech isn't it?

<mumble>make fun of my cpu will you...</mumble>
