Ps2 emulator (pcsx2) vs PsP emulator (ppsspp)
#1
Hello all, i am new here. I was wondering why is my psp emulator running smoother, faster and with better graphic enchancer than ps2. Do psp games have just better optimilization ? I´m confused.

As far as I know, the PS2 is a bit more complicated to emulate. Though PPSSPP doesn't really have better 'graphic enhancers' with PCSX2 you can go up to 6x resolution (I think) with MSAA on top of it. If you're having issues with certain games, you can make a new thread with your issues that you're having, such as graphical issues or slowdowns. If you do though, be sure to post your settings and what hardware you're using. It'll make it much easier to help you with your issues.

ppsspp has 10x psp resolution enchancer. It´s just weird, psp is weaker, why it has better graphics? It is in every psp game. In every when i increase resolution it is 2x better than pcsx2 with shade boostes and MSAA

Larger Resolution does not mean better graphics: as Sukunda stated PCSX2 supports MSAA (which reduces jagged lines), while PPSSPP only has FXAA for antialiasing (which isn't as good.) Also, PS2 games in general tend to look better when emulated, since most PSP games are designed for a handheld screen and not a large computer monitor. Still, graphics are technically subjective (i remember being one of the few people who thought GTA: San Andreas looked pretty good when it was released in 2004.Laugh)

The UMD only has 900MB of space, or 1.8GB if it is dual layer, which is less than 1/4th of an actual DVD. That means that either games will have to be short in duration or risk the overall quality going down the drain as compensation.
In addition to that, its screen is 480x272, which is about half as small as the actual PS2's output resolution (it varies between 720x480 @60 for NTSC and 720x576 @50 for PAL).

Just take a look at some of these comparisons. The Dynasty Warriors one is a pretty good example my words Tongue

Also cell shaded games will obviously look better when upscaled. It's their nature. Try games with soft, blended textures where detail matters. No matter how much you upscale there, low resolution will remain so no matter how crisp the polygons look.

The PSP isn't weaker though. The PSP had a higher clocked CPU and GPU. Granted it can get fuzzy there being with different hardware and not always being able to say what is always better just because it has a higher frequency. The PSP was extremely limited by it's UMDs though. Those things didn't fit much data on them.

The EE executes two instruction sets at a single instance. the total processing power output could be considered twice the amount of it's clockspeed. The EE is stronger.

The PSP is a lower spec system and PPSSPP is a high level emulator, whereas PCSX2 is a low level emulator.

Not 100% sure how the compare exactly, but I think the biggest difference is that the PS2 has 2 vector units and the PSP only 1.

The PS2 might have a lower clocked CPU, but it's a mips R5900 versus the PSP's R4000.
