Quad Core question
#1
I know that PCSX2 doesn't support four cores, but I still have a question regarding performance. I don't know much about how a CPU works. I'm using a 2.93GHz quad core. Does that mean that it's running four 2.93GHz cores, or that 2.93GHz is split between four cores? If it's the former, I'd assume that my 2.93GHz quad would still run better on PCSX2 than my old 2.43GHz dual.

Help is appreciated.

It means each core runs at 2.93ghz, and would perform almost identical to a dual core at the same speed in regards to pcsx2.

Edit: So yes it would perform better than your old one.
Specs:
CPU: C2D E8400 @ 3.6
GPU: GTX 560Ti 2Gb
MOB: Asus P5QL
RAM: Crucial 4Gb
OS: Windows 7 64bit/XP 32bit

Unless you're going from Intel to AMD... Generally AMD CPUs have higher clock speeds but don't perform better. The more you know

Still an amd quad at 2.93ghz would beat an intel dual at 2.43ghz.

I just upgraded to quad core (xmas)
from: amd athlon 64 x2 3800+, 2gigs ddr2 with an xfx 9800gt512 ddr3
to: amd athlon ii x4 640, 4gigs ddr3, m4a78lt-m le mobo and the same video card.

I have not only seen a huge difference, I see it all happening on all 4 cores. what i see is pcsx2 may not be optimized for quad core, but its getting the work put out to all cores anyway. well, it looks that way anyway. I thought it HAD to be programmed specially for quad core for that to work, or maybe its just magic, all i know is i'm happy cuz it works kick ass now. I have a cpu meter gadget, and when i'm running pcsx2 (and NOTHING else of course) the 4 meters shoot up and bounce around lots. Before I was struggling to get over 25 fps, now i'm getting 90-100 fps.

Windows splits the load to all available cores. It should be like 25% on each right? If PCSX2 would be quad core coded it would cause near 90% load on all 4 of them Wink So it is still practically using only 2 of them

In software mode it uses all cores, but than youre stuck with native resolution, and nobody wants to play in native
