R-Type Final extremely slow?
#1
Is there any trick playing R-Type Final in full speed? At the moment I get about 35 to 40 frames per second the most.

I'm using software rendering plugin as hardware rendering has some flaws (and is not the best with my slow graphics card).

I activated speed hacks but it seems that this does not really help much.

My system: AMD X4 640 (4 x 3,3 GHz), ATI Radeon HD 2400, 4 GB RAM, WinXP SP3.

Have you set SW render threads in GSdx to 2 or 3? Other than that, not much else you can do to speed up software mode.

Yes, I set SW renderer threads to 3.

Might be because of your hardware.

I can run in software and hardware mode both and get 60FPS.

Is a4x3,3 Ghz processor really that slow? Good, I do not have a 4 Ghz i7 but that game does not look that demanding...

Maybe it will get better with future versions of pcsx2!?

It's actually the Athlon II architecture having MUCH lower IPC than the i7 series, making his 3,3 Ghz perform like 3,8 Ghz on PCSX2 and on top of that he has 900 Mhz more.

It's fast enough for most tasks but PCSX2 itself is very demanding.
Software emulation of the GS chip of a PS2 is super slow on top of that.
Both together are often too much for cheap CPUs.

Edit:
Note that it doesn't at all matter how the game looks. The emulation still needs to be done
to play PS2 games on your PC. Sometimes even the simplest games run slow because
of the way they use the PS2 hardware.
