Radeon HD performance versus GeForce GTX
#1
I've heard the Radeon isn't as good because of optimization in the plug-ins (the author has a GeForce).

How much worse is the performance of, say, a HD 4850 versus a GTX 260.

no they do not
you can expect 10-15 % less performance on ATIs
plus they do a lot of cpu offloading so here is another 10%

Can a developer confirm either way?

The latest versions of GSDx are supposed to have fixed the issue with ATI performance, so yes, it has been addressed.

CPU offloading has been fixed already, and performance drops too.
