Recommended laptop

Hello,

here it is, I'm shopping for a new laptop, not even for me mind you, and my brother (the eventual recipient of the computer) is not what you could call a gamer. He plays Sims and emulators, and he was very disappointed to see the PS2 emulator was too demanding for his old computer. Now I'm trying to shop online but I'm not exactly what you could call a highly knowledgable person when it comes to technology, so what I'm asking here is your opinion on a laptop good enough to run PCSX2 with games such as FFX and other RPGs of the sort, while still on a (somewhat) limited budget. I'm not gunning for a top-end gaming laptop, he doesn't need it, just, if it's possible, to give him the possibility to run the emulator well enough so he could appreciate it.

Thank you.

Under 1000$ if possible, the lower the better.

Thanks for making the thread. I'll let Nobbs help you here, as he has more laptop knowledge than I do. I'm a desktop person.

Well.... I know FF-X for sure, but aside from that I'm not entirely sure. I understand that the power needed must vary from game to game, so I suppose what you're asking is if the games that interest him are of the demanding type or no. I would say go wide, as to include mostly every possible game, unless of course it makes a big difference in pricing. You see I'm a bit reticent as to bluntly asking him that question, as the computer is supposed to be a christmas gift...Wacko

I apologize if I'm making this more complicated for you, but I really appreciate your willingness to help me, and so I thank you very much, but would also understand if you just stopped responding Tongue

It does make a big difference. Like the difference between moderately demanding games, and heavy demanding games, is gonna be about 300-400 bucks($600-700 vs 1000+).

Yeah, it can make a difference in pricing, especially if you want to run the really heavy games like Shadow of the Colossus. FFX is pretty easy to run though.

Here's a cheaper option http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6834152586

I see... so would that second option be able to run the really heavy games or would it still require more? And would that cheap option run only a few really light games or still a good bunch? Anyway thank you for your time, you're a great help.
