Actually they are practically the same other than the controls being less sensitive and crappy on the PS2 version. Even though the PC textures are garbage they are still much cleaner than the PS2 version. Having played the PC version all the way through first, then trying it on the PS2 I was disappointed, not sure why since the PS2 is nearly ten years old.

Plus with the PC version you can easily mod it to your hearts delight and that's the key. It's as simple as dropping a folder in your RE4 directory to enable mods. I have about 4GB of mods and high resolution textures installed on my RE4 PC version and it's great. It looks so nice now, also I have Ada killing "not a zombie's" in a thong Smile.

To answer your original question yes it's playable but there are several hiccups throughout the game mostly in the way of slowdowns. Even on my 4.5Ghz E8400, 8800GTX with a 10,000 RPM HDD it's still not enough to play lag free. I used the latest GSDX10 (SSE4.1), Lillypad, and the most awesome Linuzappz. I can't remember the exact configuration I used but I could post it later if you'd like.

I've finished with my E8200 @ 3.33ghz Nvidia 8800gts internal res 1360x768 and nhancer with AA 4x. always at 60 fps :-)
P.s: GSDX 890 directx9 (nHancer doesn't work with DX10)

I get a nice framerate too but it's still very slow in some area's which makes me think it's not a horsepower issue but something on the software side. Like most games it takes a lot of tweaking and playing with settings to get the best experience.

I suppose PS2 uses blur to make image more realistic because of the initially very low res...

Yeah the controls are much better for the PS2. Other than that though it's inferior IMHO. Although that's not saying much, it's like comparing a Mustang to a Ferrari. Take care.
