Resolved: [Bug Report] Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance [NTSC-U]
#1
# PCSX2 versions used:
  • pcsx2-v1.3.1-1204-gad784a5-windows-x86 (latest dev build)
  • pcsx2-v1.3.1-965-g6580f49-windows-x86 (bug is still present on this build)

# Emulation settings: "Safest" preset, no hacks.
# Plugins used: GSdx AVX2, using the OpenGL renderer (hardware and software)
# Plugin settings: CRC Hack Level "None", all other options didn't influence the bug.
# Description:
On hardware mode, when the thermal goggles are equipped, the obtained screen effect is broken and appears to be resource intensive; it seems like the last layer which shows the heat map is only shown minimized to the top left corner. The resolution of the corner also appears to be different from the rest of the screen.
On software mode, it works as expected.

# CPU: Intel® Core™ i5-4690K CPU @ 3.50GHz
# GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 (Driver: NVIDIA 355.98)

# Screenshots:

The correctly emulated post processing can be seen in the upper left corner. This issue is known but I think so far unknown how to solve efficiently.

Just checked the wiki, yeah there's already reports on this, can't believe I missed it. I guess it's to be expected since it's a popular game. There's also another HW renderer bug on cutscenes where some limbs of boss characters appear to be blacker the rest of the body, should I bother doing a bug report for that or is it also a known issue?

I think it is always good to collect as much information as possible. Also devs will know good test cases for improvements. Even know cases are good to catch from time to time in screenshots to see regressions and improvements.
