Shadow of the colossus, shouldn't be this slow?

Hello all,

I've upgraded my work computer to something rather expensive, mainly for my graphics processing. Thought I'd see what PCSX2 could do with the power... I'm a little amazed though.

SOTC runs perfectly fine through the intro, yet when the game starts it becomes incredibly slow, at 12fps. Also the lighting outside is way too bright, I cannot see a thing in the distance. Looking downwards helps somewhat, but obviously I can't play the game in this way.

SOTC running from my original disc
Running the latest PCSX2 with latest official plugins.

running native at 1680 x 1050 DX10
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
Core i7 Skulltrail duel xeon W5580 cpu's 3.2ghz each
12GB Crucial DDR3 Ram
two Geforce GTX295's
160gb Intel Solid State HD
3x 1TB Samsung F1 Sata II HD's

Any other info required, just let me know, any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

This system is impressive and expensive, but its power lies in things we can't use very well.
PCSX2 needs 2 cpu cores, at the highest frequency possible.

Anyway, 12FPS is way too low. I guess this happens because you play from the DVD.
Try making an iso of it, and using that. (Imgburn is an iso creator I recommend.)

Well yes, you have 8 cores at 3.2 ghz, but 2 cores at 4 ghz would be what you need...
You should study the art of overclocking a bit, you may be able to get that 4 gHz alright.

Also, the gtx 295 is a multi-gpu solution in one card. It's like two cards running in SLI. So you've got two gtx 295's, that means 4 gpus... But again, pcsx2 uses only one gpu at a time. Wich means that a gtx 285 would outpersform a gtx 295, because it's single gpu is stroger than one on a 295.
AND multi gpu solutions are also taking a LOT of CPU to drive them! You are actually sucking away your precious and much needed CPU power away from handling pcsx2 into driving all those gpu's.
Sh*t happens, huh. : \

If u just want it playable, run it in software mode. If uve got two i7 processors, its like 8 real cores...8 virtual cores (16 total). Set Pcsx2 up for using 2 cores. Then set up the GSDX directx 10/11 software mode to using the other 14 cores or whatever the highest it supports if its under 14. Should be no problem, it should fly. If u want better graphics disable sli, and keep your internal resolution within reason as it can slow stuff down. I have an i7 920 @ 4.0ghz overclocked w/ a 9800gt and it runs only a little slow in software and pretty fast in hardware but I've only got an internal res of 512x512.

Overclock to 4GHZ, software mode, 16 threads XD.

512x512 in HW mode with a 9800gt ? Ohmy
I was running that game at 800x600 with my old very crappy 7600gt in dx9 mode... It's impossible that you cant crack it up to at least 1024x1024 with that card. Maybe to 1280x960.. or using te 2x multiplier...

just use some speedhacks. I am playing it right now - no did not experiance any glitches that may occure when speedhacks are on.

It doesn't seem like a speedhack issue, rather it's because he's running the game from the disc.
