Should I be getting only 10-20 fps in Shadow of the Colossus with my specs?

2.66 GHZ is low, even for an i7.

SoTC still only runs half speed (about 30 FPS with no speed hacks) on my 3.5 GHz processor (which isn't all that much slower, clock for clock). At my stock speed of 2.4 ghz, I get like 10 frames per second max.

Get the latest beta and GSdx revision 1406 or 1398 see if it gets any better for you. Also in the beta set the "VU cycle stealing" speedhack to moderate or maybe higher.

VU cycle stealing speeds up the opening cinematic, but the menu and gameplay are still 10-20 frames. It's a little better than before, but still not playable.

Tried the GSdx revision I said before?

Uhm, try a software renderer something is definitelly wrong with your system. Have you updated your card drivers? What drivers are you using at the moment? Can you show a screenshot of your windows task manager's "performance" tab?

My drivers should be updated. I got the latest 5800 series drivers recently since I just built this computer.

I also used the directx installer program that automatically updated it to the current version.

I was using the beta r1888 as suggested earlier. It performs a little better with the VU cycle stealing, but gameplay is still really sluggish.

Here's my task manager normally:

And here it is while I am while in-game as soon as I can move in the temple: (VU cycling set for moderate and all the speed hacks on)

It was running from 12-20 fps, but felt like it was slowing down as I tried to move.

Could a reason be because I'm dual-monitoring? I'm not sure how much resources it would take to run it, but I imagine it wouldn't be much.

Well I tried disabling my second monitor, but there's no noticeable difference.

Here's another screenshot of the task manager, this time it was while I was riding my horse at roughly 18 fps.

Try a software renderer in Gsdx (with sw. threads set to 3 or 6 I guess) I think it could be the card but cant be sure, did you try any other games other than this and kingdom hearts?

Heh, that's odd. I switched it to the software renderer and now it's running at a near constant 60 fps. If anything, it's too fast now.

What exactly does that mean then? My graphics card is messed up? It was $400 so I hope not =/
I set the sw. threads for 3 by the way.

Yeah, there seems to be a problem with your graphics card. Have you tried playing other games (as in non-PCSX2) or run 3DMark06 / Vantage? Do you get any lag?

The only other games I tried were Ys Ark of Napishtim and Kingdom Hearts. Kingdom Hearts had some slowdowns, and it became pretty bad once I left the tutorial. I didn't continue past that though since I was discouraged by the slowdowns.

Ys ran at full speed aside from the cutscenes in the beginning.

I just retried Ys with the software renderer, and the cutscene is noticeably faster, though the sound still echoes at times and is a little bit choppy.
