(04-20-2011 06:01 AM)Rezard Wrote:  Actually, it kicks the snot out of any PSU I've seen that comes with a case (hands down). It's not just me that is has worked for, and I never said it was of particular "good quality". It's not loud, but I can't say I've tested for ripple. Hell, it's not like you should expect so much for $25, except a PSU that can do the job and will get you by. It's not like it's a wonderful PSU that'll carry over to your next build or something. Gee, dude, you seem to be going to some great lengths to try and discredit a cheap PSU as not being something "ideal". If you missed it, I've already agreed with that... Tongue

Just saying, set some realistic expectations. Even if that PSU has worked well for you and several other people you know, the same can be said for a lot of cheapie PSU's that come with cases. The noise I'm referring to is "electric" noise and not how loud or quiet it is. By the way, the Antec Neo ECO 400C (SeaSonic S12II) is currently $35 after coupon on Newegg ($25 after MIR). The Antec EA-380D also frequently dips down to that price range. Both of those actually have similar amperage on the 12V rail as your ePOWER so more likely than not, your 500W PSU is really only good for ~400W. Can't imagine you'd need 50A on the 5V rail.

It's as if the PCSX2 bench scene is all about FP MAD and FP MUL... lol. No, the bandwidth truely shows there. If comparing an HD 5670 with matching DDR3, you could expect possibly less performance than a GT 430 DDR3 (approx 25GB/s). The more appropriate comparison to a GDDR5 5670 would be nVidia's GDDR5 GT 440. Still under $100, yet with 1GB versions available (example). Smile

I have both and the HD 5670 GDDR5 performs closer to 9800 GT level than GT 430 in PCSX2. Again, it's the GDDR5 version. Mayhaps the ones Koji and abdo123 have use DDR3 (which is probably slightly slower than the GT 430). Besides, the HD 5670 isn't really the GT 430's competitor. The HD 5570 GDDR3 is. True, the GT 440 is a much closer contender but seriously, I have a feeling the older GT 240 GDDR5 would beat the 440 in PCSX2.

Ugh. I second what Shadow Lady is saying. Performance of cards in the sub-$100 market has been stagnant for a while now. For the past two generations, all AMD and NVIDIA have been doing is adding features (audio over HDMI, HD audio bitstreaming, 3D, PureVideo/UVD). Heck, even the GTS 450 performs worse than the GTS 250 in PCSX2 (and in a bunch of PC games, too). Huh

Right on, dude. That Antec is surely a nice one. My point is more directed at how that PSU has nearly twice the face price, ya know? With the promo and MIR, it is definitely a more ideal route that doesn't hit the wallet any harder. BTW, I'm not at all gonna try to pretend to know more on PSUs than you, man (Smile). And, yeah, what's with that 5V rail? lol. Talk about overkill where it doesn't count.

I totally second that 240>440 idea. What is with the regression? Why limit a 450 to a 128-bit bus, when the previous 250 had 256-bit? Total nonsense. Even a GT 430 was beat out by a GT 220 (in the PCSX2 bench). It's like the 200 and 300 mobiles: the GT 320M was flat out made weaker than a GT 220M... Isn't that backwards?

I donot know the exact prices but around 100$ there is also a sapphire HD5830 (5850 for a little more) which is very powerful for the prices. It is probably end of stock. But il need much power.

Indeed a much more powerful card, but it looks like that HD 5830 is at $140 (on Newegg). Maybe a little beyond the budget range, but it does look like a HD 5750 or HD 5770 are just over $100. They come out under $100 after MIR.

Haven't seen any HD 5830's in a long time. For around the same price and given the OP's PSU, I'd opt for the lower power HD 5770 which can often be found for ~$100 in the US. HD 5670 GDDR5 is usually around $70, I think.

The 5830s are the bad batch of the 5850. In other words, it's a crippled 5850. Save yourself the trouble and money and get the real deal (5850).

Asus P5Q Deluxe rev.1.03
Q9550 2.83GHz OC'ed @4GHz
MSi R580 3GB Twin Frozr III Lightning Extreme
Thermalright Venomous X w/ COUGAR CF-V12HP
G.Skill 2x2GB DDR2 1100MHz F2-8800CL5D-4GBPI
Corsair 1000w

Yeah thats right.... I read somewhere the same story for the GTX 465 & GTX 470.
I guess the HD5770 is a better idea than that HD5830, or simply step up to the 5850.
HD5770 is not much slower than HD5830, maybe 3 or 4 fps average.

Well, I mention the HD8530 because it was close of the 100$ budget. In france, the HD8530 can be found at 90 Euros (which include franch tax... ). And the HD5770 at 95 Euros... Anyway price of HD57/56xx will drop in coming month with the new HD6000 cards

HD5830 is a HD5850 which less shaders (dis-activated because few transistors was bad). The remaining part have the same quality as a full HD5850 ! Otherwise most of the chip are only crippled version of the highest part. The only 3 parameters are performance, power, cost. Note: I did not look at this parameter, 5850 is maybe better. Just do not select the chip because of his origin.

I guess I'll hold up for a 28nm GPU with PCI Express 3.0 interface. Saving $$ for that ^^
