Do these said in the title in GsDX work? I just came to question because when I used it to gain more speed in Neo Contra, my CPU usage maxed itself out
Specifications:
AMD Sempron 3850 @ 1.3GHz
Zotac Geforce GT 640 2GB
4GB RAM
Kubuntu Linux 14.10 STS

That should indicate it works, how much the speed increased before the CPU ceiling, that's another story.

short answer...the linux version of increasing fps with extra rendering threads does not work.
OS: Linux Mint 17.2 64 bit (occasional Antergos/Arch user)
(I am no longer a Windows user)
CPU: Intel Pentium G3258
GPU: Nvidia GTX 650 Ti
