Sound issues

Well, I too have a mac for design and clipping purposes(yours is waaay stronger thou...)
Anyways, have you tried with default settings only? No speedhacks or anything of the sort?

Yup. That was what I did originally. Then I tried unchecking different boxes in the sound settings, and then I tried speedhacks.

What was the results from using the default settings? Have you turned off Bilinear and Anti-Aliasing?
