Start Disc "Could not find any CD/DVD Rom Devices"

Hey folks,
I'm trying to start up my old copy of Silent Hill 4 through an external drive; the drive usually works fine but PCSX2 can't seem to recognize it, and it's my first attempt trying to use a disc with the emulator; the drive also powers down shortly after the disc is inserted, likely because my Mac can't recognize the format. I've done some digging with to no avail. Any thoughts on how to proceed?

Did you ever figure this out? I too am wondering what else can be done with discs in this application; I see a few areas but am hoping there is some tool in here that will help me prepare DVD-R disks for use in the original console, but definitely need some guidance.
