If it plays fine at native,
but slows as you increase the internal resolution,
then your GPU is what becomes the bottleneck in that case.

It is not surprising.
The GT 540M is just an average card for the purpose.
Some games may not run well with the resolution increased (to a point).
You could actually even find a few games, or part(s) of them,
that are not entirely within it's capabilities at low resolution.

Your laptop's processor is fine in general for the emulator,
and is doing it's job as it seems here.
If it can run fine at native resolution,
then your CPU is fast enough for the scene.
You actually don't benefit from Speedhacks in that case,
and they will not help with higher resolutions, either.

There is no difference between 3Ghz on a desktop and laptop,
assuming they are of the same kind (architecture).

Current System:

Intel Core i7 920 (Nehalem )
Nvidia GTX570 HD
6 GBs DDR3 RAM

Running everything at 1920x1080p. Rogue Galaxy slows down a LOT, sometimes FPS are in the mid 20's. Wondering if a new Ivy Bridge 3770k would bring this up to constant 60 FPS, or should I maybe just wait for Haswell?

I'm pretty sure you don't need any better processor than you've got.
Unless maybe it's at stock (2.67Ghz).
Have you tried applying any Speedhacks?

I would not suspect your GPU could be an issue,
even at that kind of resolution.
Have you tried low (native) resolution?

If the game is still having trouble after trying both of these things together,
consider overclocking your processor.

If you have already overclocked your processor,
then it may be time to post a new thread regarding your issue. Smile

The processer is running at 2.6 Ghz. I really don't want to play with overclocking. So would the faster Ivy Bridge help any?

Will this run games nicely?

AMD Phenom X4 9850 Black Edition Quad Core Socket AM2+ (940 pin) 2511.36mhz Core Speed
ASUSTek Crosshair II Formula Motherboard - nForce 780a SLI SPP (MCP Southbridge)
8gb DDR2 Dual Channel Corsair PC2-6400
NVIDIA GeForce 8800GTS 512mb (I do have a 550GT TI 1gb)

I know that emulation before used to say you needed a 3GHZ cpu.. but I thought that was because the emulator doesn't use any more than a single core.. has the latest version of PCSX2 changed that? Will it use more cores now? If not.. any idea if overclocking my CPU would help much? I do have a rather large zalman cpu heatsink/fan..

Specs:
CPU - AMD Phenom X4 9850 Black Edition Quad Core Socket AM2+ (940 pin) 2511.36mhz
MB - ASUSTek Crosshair II Formula Motherboard - nForce 780a SLI SPP (MCP Southbridge)
RAM - 8gb DDR2 Dual Channel Corsair PC2-6400
GFX - NVIDIA GeForce 8800GTS 512mb (I do have a 550GT TI 1GB)
OS - Windows 7 64bit/Fedora 13 KDE

1st gen Phenom @ 2.5GHz... it'll probably struggle to run most games @ 60FPS and would not achieve that on the more heavy games.

I doubt it will run games fast, I think only the AMD Phenom II's get decent performance on pcsx2 all other AMD processors run horrible no matter what speed they are at, all your other specs are ok though

Not bad for a 350 gbp desktop though I thought.. Smile I do have 2 PS2's that I play games on anyway.. its just that when my 2 PS2's die I would like a system to run my PS2 games on. Next PC I buy then I think Smile

Not really, I once ran many games fine with Athlon X2 (brisbane) @ 3.0GHz, and it was before many speed improvement seen on later svn.

Man really, what's so complex about processing PS2 graphics. I just don't get it, even ancient Quake 3 is twice as detailed Sad
