PROCESSOR: 3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i5-3470 processor (6M Cache, 3.20GHz) Up to 3.60GHz with turbo
OPERATING SYSTEM: Windows 8 Pro 64bit, ENG, FR, DUT, ITL, PL
GPU: Radeon 7770
MEMORY: 6GB (1X2GB/1X4GB) 1600 MHz DDR3 Non-ECC
HARD DRIVE: 1TB 3.5inch Serial ATA III (7.200 Rpm) Hard Drive

Depends on the game, most games will run great on either one, but there are a few tough games that require massive CPU speeds, and even the top of the line processors can still struggle on (but of course, faster is better).

PCSX2 gets a VERY linear improvement based on clockspeed in the same architecture (like the two CPUs you are comparing). So the difference between 3.6ghz to 4.5 will be about 25% faster. That is, if you're getting 40FPS on a hard game on 3.6, you'll get about 50fps on 4.5 (assuming the CPU is the bottleneck).

If you have a few examples of the games you want to play, I could give you more exact estimates.

Well what a bummer here i was thinking a modern..ish computer (amd athlon 64) would perform decently for pcsx2 but go figure no joy less some one has found a way to make it work and well i don't see nothing.

Any ways looks like ill just get a ps2 heh ebay here i come rofl.

Funny when you think about it. ps1 sony never reached the limits it was capable of same for ps2. Just look at ff9 the scene with zidane jumping from the air ship i mean wow seriously awesome cut scene. And that is the ps1...

Makes me really want to do a full rework of the ff7 models heh 4x poly count models any one Tongue
Any how will dig around the forums later. BTW
Quick bit about me

Im a computer tech with 19+ years experience currently working at computer tech dude here in akron. And i do 3d art as a hobby when i have time will post back later have fun all

Well it is way more modern that the ps2 heh.
It just boggles the mind that a ps2 that is what 12 or 13 years old can just kill a computer in performance.

Does make one wonder just what the ps2 or shoot even the original PlayStation is capable of even today. They never came close to reaching the full potential of ither system imo

In all seriousness ill just build a new comp. Need to any how as i do want to get back in to 3d modeling with 3d studio max etc. This system is very capable of running 3dsmax 9 with plenty to spare. Right now im on the hunt to find a util for getting at the 3d models from the ps1 and ps2 games like ff7. I got one (bitrun)but it doesn't cut it with some of the models.

Strange my 2 replies got put togather as one single post as a edit?

no, What i mean is that you need a PS2 to be able to use pcsx2 anyways. You need to extract your PS2 bios.

And you're a computer tech right?

Just making sure you weren't just saying it to try and sound more impressive than you are...

Anyways, the PS2 isn't killing a computer in performance, the PS2 was trounced computationally by computers even when it was first out (though at a much higher price tag obviously). Emulation is complicated... It's like trying to start a fire with 2 sticks, while the PS2 has a lighter in it's pocket. The results are the same, but the steps are way different and the former takes a lot more work.

Think of it (quite literally) as two different languages. The PS2 speaks it's language very fluently and can say what it wants to say very quickly. The PC is the same for it's own language. That said, the problem comes with translating one to the other. The PC is fully capable of speaking the PS2's language with the right guides (in this case, the emulator, PCSX2) but the language is complex, and some words don't translate 1:1, taking more time and correction to make up for it.

It's like talking to someone who doesn't natively speak english. They take longer to form their sentences and you can feel it in the flow of the dialogue. Add to that mix, accents which can make words sound technically wrong (in this case, it would be emulation bugs). No matter how good you get at a foreign language, you never completely get rid of your native accent (unless you're bsnes/Higan... but that's a different analogy all together).

There you go, my overly complex analogy Wink
