I have same problem with this game:after trening I get black screen.....Using latest pcsx2 with default plugins.Canot make it continue no mather what I do--- help :-)
EDIT:When games stops in console I can see "Trap exception at 0x0068d5f0".Maybe this can help to find problem.
That is odd, i am still playing this game and running fine. Using pcsx2 r.4875 but my iso running on daemon tools first then play with gigahertzcdvd plugin because with running by daemon tools, i feel game play more smoother rather than running in ISO game directly.
Edit : Forgot to tell, for sound plugin sp-x 2.0 option i set to ansycronous mode and do not use Vucycle stealing hack.

I had pcsx2 0.9.7 on my HD and I used it to play TotA and black screen after trening is gone.I saved game on memory card and used pcsx2 0.9.8 to continue game but it has too many crashes(all crashes happen after finishing battles) to continue playing.cannot play it on 0.9.7 because it is so slowwwwww can get only 40FPS.Any idea how to fix this?

I just experienced the freeze after Van's training sequence. I tried several combinations of plugins before actually getting past the endless black screen and "trap exception" thingy. But, I think our dilemma is all because of one problem: The speedhack.
I just disabled ALL speedhacks from the moment I started the game. Do not attempt to switch speedhacks ON during the game. That might be the problem. Your game might have low FPS (mine had slow FPS ) but be patient. Just wait until your practice fight with Van ends. It worked for me.

It's only the "fast CDVD" or Cycle hacks that cause the problemss, you can keep the others enabled (the "recommended" ones alone give enough a speedup anyway).
