RE: The GTX 480 Coming soon...
My friend actually told me this last night, and I just didn't understand what Nvidia was doing. ATI won't even have to lower their prices to get people to buy their cards, it just makes more sense.

Anyways, I hopped on the ATI wagon after the Nvidia 8600m gt fiasco. That really irritated me, and now my sister's boyfriend is having the same problems I did. Oh well.

I have a 5770, and it doesn't draw too much power, and it idles at 32c which I like.

Laptop
Intel Core 2 Duo PM8600 @ 2.4 GHz
4 GB DDR3 1066 RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3670 512 MB

Desktop
AMD Phenom II x2 550 (unlocked to 4)@ 3.5ghz
4 GB DDR3 1600 RAM
Sapphire 5770 1GB

Like I said, NVIDIA right now is just like ATI was when they released 3xxx series; new architecture testing phase.
Personally I'd wait for their 2nd gen. Fermi, assuming they'd "get it".

Right now I'm pretty much also content with a 5770.

Intel C2D E6550 2.33GHz (OC@2.8GHz)
Corsair CM2X1024 4GB (4x1GB) DDR2 DRAM
ASUS P5K
XFX Radeon HD 5770 1GB

Running on Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

Nappa: Vegeta! What does the scouter say about his power level?
Vegeta: It's...one thousand and six.
Nappa: Wh-...really?
Vegeta: Yeah! Beat him up Nappa!
Nappa: Yay!

The cheaper one is 5870.
A 5970 is still around $200 more than a GTX480 if its MSRP is really around $500, unless there's a rebate or specials going on for the 5970.

But yeah, performance-wise a GTX480 is close to a 5870, but consumes more power and produce more heat.

RE: The GTX 480 Coming soon...
in the netherlands at least, the cheapest 5970's start at €523 and the cheapest GTX480's at €545 so here it really is cheaper

i hope the sapphire 4GB 5970 @ 850/1200 clocks with 3 80mm fans gets released soon.. so much overclock potential Laugh

RE: The GTX 480 Coming soon...
I don't have that kind of money, but I am a fan of Sapphire, I have a 5770 from them. Overclocks well but I have an interesting little problem. I can set it to 900/1350 and play battlefield bad company 2 for hours with no problem, but then I load up team fortress 2 and I have graphical glitches until I set it back to 890/1280. Dunno why this is, any ideas?
