#1
im looking for a GPU upgrade next year so i can play literally anygame @ 6x res.

currently im maxed out @ 3x for most games. some i have downscale to 2x.

What would be required for 6x across the board?

I've been looking at this one myself:

I don't know if it would be good enough for 6x native on EVERY game, but I think it's pretty powerful card nonetheless. I like that it has 2GB of RAM (not important for pcsx2, but it is important for PC games I play, namely, Civilization V). And it's under $200 ! You could also look at the HD7870 but it's pretty much the same as the HD7850 (with higher clock speed). Of course, the only card that would guarantee the results you want is probably the HD 7970 or Nvidia equivalent, if you have the money for them Smile

well i got enough money saved atm for a 7850. but im waiting till the spring for the 88XX series to come out. they are supposed to have 79XX performance at same 200 dollar price point.

thanks for the input so far.

Are you sure the 8xxx series are supposed to be out this spring? I wouldn't think that they would release a new generation after only a year. Usually it takes at least 1.5 to 2 years?

Amd has been ahead of the curve this generation compared to nvidia... im pretty sure we'll see at least SOME 8k series at least in Q1 and all the leaked specs floating about point 8800/8700 in Q1 and 8900 in Q2 atm.

yup AMD comes with the 8xxx series in 2013, but when that's still the question.

The 16x MSAA is your problem. You should never need anything more than 8x.

I tried turning on this MSAA in Star Ocean 3 but it showed no visible improvement in that game, but it did cause my framerates to take a nosedive. The X native multiplier seems to be the only thing that can visually improve this game substantially; I'm currently playing on 4x native and it's absolutely gorgeous compared to Native.

Does the MSAA setting only affect soem games but not all? If so, then is it possible to have even better quality than 6x native? Finally, what kind of monster card would be needed to run all games at the highest possible MSAA and 6X native?
