What is the status with AMD drivers' OpenGL performance?
#1
I'm planning to replace my gtx 960 with an RX 480 soon but I have concerns due to OpenGL performance. Emulation is an important part for my regular gaming time. Am I guaranteed to get better performance than gtx 960 with an rx 480 or are the opengl drivers really bad?

opengl drivers are really that bad, it pretty much cuts your opengl performance in half, so yes PCSX2 will be slower. Your only other solution is to keep both cards and use the 960 for emulation.

On short-term getting a 1060/1070 will be your best bet if you want the best graphical quality from PCSX2 at playable speeds.

It isn't always slower, sometime it just crashes your computer Wink AMD will never support OpenGL properly, you can forget about it. Hopefully Vulkan will be better, but you will likely change again your GPU before all application replaces OpenGL by Vulkan.

I'm really too slow to write my posts! Not soon, it isn't the main priority.

Sadly performance is still ***** for AMD. Sad

I'm almost tempted to get an NVIDIA card next time I have to buy a new GPU.
AMD Ryzen 5 3600 @ 3.60~4.20 GHz | Corsair Vengeance LPX 32 GB (2x16GB) DDR4-3200
MSI GeForce GTX 1660 Super @ 6 GB | Samsung 980 1TB | Windows 10 Pro x64 (22H2)

Why not take an Nvidia GPU ? Freesync ? IMHO, a GPU that you can't use it at its full power is useless.

It is up to you. But personally I won't bother and go directly to a 1060 card Wink

Because NV is a highly anti-consumer company. Some people care about that.
