Which AMD processor for PCSX2 ?
#1
Hi.

I'm new on this forum. Smile
At first, sorry for my english because I'm french.
I don't know if it's the good place to post this thread but if not, change the location of my thread.

I play with PSCX2 installed on an old computer to Dragon Ball Z budokai Tenkaichi 3 around 20-25 fps.

I have an Athlon 64 3200 +.based on socket 939.
1 gb RAM.
GeForce 9500 GT.

I would like to change my Athlon 64 3200+ by a more powerful and dual-core processor without changing the motherboard. ( Socket 939. )
I would like to upgrade my RAM too, of course.

Does the following processors for example, are enough powerful to run PCSX2 normally ?

Athlon 64 X2 4200+, 4400+, 4600+, 4800+.... ( Socket 939 )

Thanks by advance. Smile

There's no such Athlon 64 X2 for Socket 939. You have to change your motherboard to a socket AM2+.

I know that ! I could get some AMD processors socket 939 with good prices. That's why I don't want to change my motherboard.

PCSX2 needs powerful CPU to run correctly. As we lnow, Intel processors are more powerful than AMD processors, I don't want to buy a new and expensive processor with his motherboard.

I'm wondering if there has some guys that running PCSX2 correctly with AMD processors.

yes, I do with athlon X2 5200+ Wink

Seriously, you need at least a dual core to get playable speeds for most games.
CPU : AMD Ryzen 7 3800X
Mobo : Asus PRIME B450-PLUS
GPU : NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070
RAM : 16 Go

I know that. I've seen there has some speed hacks settings on PCSX2 for dual core processors.

You really play normally with an athlon X2 5200+ ? Which graphic card you have ? Which games you play on ? I expect to play Dragon Ball Z Budoaki Tenkaichi 3 normally on PC.

Actually, there is such an Athlon 64 X2 for the Socket 939. I have one, which is the Athlon 63 X2 3500+ OC'd to 2.6GHz.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athlon_64_X2

Obviously, even my OC'd CPU currently doesn't keep up too well with intense 3D PS2 games but runs 60fps on 2D games. To give an idea on how it runs, Front Mission 5 runs at 32-40fps during in-game missions, main title at 40-45fps, and briefings at 60fps.

Well I would get a new mobo and an Intel cpu tough. But if you like AMD, then why not buy a Phenom II Black Edition 940. Nice oc potential and it's cheap.
