Why Does My PCSX2 Run So Slowly?
#1
I recently downloaded PCSX2 to play some old school PS2 games that I loved, but to be disappointed that my PC cannot run the ISOs well enough without lag. I have tried most tutorials with enabling the Multicore hack, changing all the video settings, boasting PCSX2 in Nvidia Control Panel, and many other things. I don't understand why it is acting this way as my PC matches or exceeds the recommended requirements for this program,

My Specs:
Processor: AMD FX 8320
GPU: GTX 660 SC
RAM: 8 GB (1333 MHz I believe)
Storage: 1 TB HDD

What settings do you think I need to change to make PCSX2 run smoothly?

What are your FPS, EE% GS% values for one or all of these games during slowdowns?
Please post the emulog after you observed the problem.

You mentioned that you changed some settings... are you 100% sure that you use default settings?

FPS: It starts out as 60 fps, but during many parts of the game when i look in other directions, it starts to drop down to 30-40 fps
EE: 70 and spikes as high as 90%
GS: Around 85-95%
Game: Sly Cooper 3: Honor Among Theives
The settings that i have now changed were the multicore hack, upscaling to 3x, changing the render to DirectX3D11, enabling of automatic gamefixes, host filesystem, and widescreen patches.

Try using a newer version of PCSX2. Download the SVN builds and run that, see how it does. Also, if your mobo supports overclocking, give that a go, as that processor mightbe good it won't match the performance of an i7 without OC, and even then it's still a tough shot.

that's a demanding game, and your CPU won't be strong enough for it unless you overclock it above 4.0 Ghz
From the EE% & GS% values you reported, it clearly shows your CPu is struggling

So the only possible to have it run smoothly at 60 fps is have a CPU run at 4 GHz?

AT LEAST 4 ghz

I think Blyss Sarania has the same CPU as you, and he did overclock it above 4 Ghz.
may you should try to contact him.

Or if you don't feel comfident with overclocking, you could still play the game on your PS2 until you can afford a better machine.
