RE: Will PCSX2 run fast on my computer?
The new Radeon 5xxx series cards came out not too long ago and I have heard that there have been some driver issues with some games. Do you guys know how well they are working with the current beta? I ordered one of the 5770s and am wondering what I can expect when it gets here. My processor is a Phenom II X2 550 BE @ 3.1 ghz and I am upgrading the card from a 9500 gt.

Edit: I am hoping to be able to up my resolutions, most stuff works fine on native and I can run ffx at 1280x720 with few problems

Most of the time I run perfect speed at 1280x720, and could easily go higher in most games with my 3850. The 5770 from benchmarks I've seen is about 50% faster and has twice the v-ram, so I wouldn't be surprised if you got perfect speed with 1080p.

I don't entirely expect much out of this, but I'm considering a cheap-ish laptop soon. It's something to hold me off until I can build a better more expensive one. Here are the specs (please don't laugh too much Tongue )-

MSI A6000-029US laptop
Core 2 Duo T6600 @2.2ghz
4GB DDR2 memory
nVidia GeForce 8200M-G (integrated, probably huge bottleneck, besides my processor which would suck a bit)

Just want a little idea of what I could do with it. Yes, integrated GPU's aren't good, yes the processor is rather slow. Can't help either thing. I don't mind using native resolution in games or turning on speed hacks. Even frameskipping will be fine. Just please tell me what I can do with it.

I should mention that I have gotten several stressful games to work 50%-100% full speed on these ancient shitty specs-

Pentium 4 @2.8ghz (single core)
2GB DDR2 memory
Intel Integrated Media Accelerator 900

I'd be surprised if I couldn't do at least a LITTLE better than that lol! Jak and Daxter ran at generally 40%-70% speed. Kingdom Hearts ran 50%-100% (yes it did reach full speed at times) with some minor but frequent graphical glitches. Final Fantasy X ran rather badly at around 40% speed and unplayable graphical glitches (missing or garbled polygons). But impressive for a single core with only an intel GPU. I assume I would do a little better than that. Most speed hacks were on with no negative effects. Impressive I was able to run it at all.

CPU- Athlon II X2 250 3ghz
RAM- 2GB DDR2
GPU- Radeon 4350 512MB
OS- Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Just a heads up... there are only a very very select few laptops that don't have integrated graphics. It's much more of a worry for desktops because there are no good integrated PC graphics.

Kingdom Hearts should get full speed most of the time, as will FFX. Most 3d games will still be quite and noticably slow. If you're patient you may get quite a few games playable but not quite full speed.

Hey thanks for the answer! Yeah, I'm pretty patient. I don't mind things like minor graphical glitches (like the ones in Jak and Daxter on all PC's) or a bit of choppiness. I'm running a pentium 3 1ghz right now with no decent GPU, and have gotten used to running Lego Star Wars (PC) at around 10fps (little higher here and there). So I'm pretty used to bad framerates and gltches at least. I've also grown accustomed to playing around with speedhacks on my desktop (the pentium 4 one without a GPU) and know how to use those.

I'd LIKE to build a core i5 desktop or something, but that's kind of out of my price range (found the MSI laptop for cheap somewhere). Laptop is more functional for me anyways.

Thanks!

I have one more question and I think this thread is prolly the best to ask this, but on overclocking the processor, how exactly is it done. I have tried to look up some good sites but I am still not understanding exactly what all needs to be changed and when. I want to put mine at about 3.4ish and am hoping to use AMD overdrive if that works fine. I put my CPU in my post above this.

No this isn't the right thread to ask that. You're better off asking in an overclocking forum anyway
