Will this PC work with this Emu decently?
#1
This PC I'm using is almost 5 years old, I think I'm going to upgrade. Another reason why is cause I love PS2 gaming, but don't have a CRT set anymore, and games look really bad on my HDTV. I do have this nice 21" samsung 1080 monitor I'd like to use. I really don't want to go to much higher, I'm almost at $980.

How's this?

after you purchase that setup and try running pcsx2 you will be shocked, you wont see full speeds, on lighter games like KH you will, but not on most games, ive seen few people with that cpu on this forum saying that they dont get full speeds on their six core, and here is the reasons, it does not support sse3 ssse3 sse4.1 or 4.2, only sse2, intel cpu architecture is better in general and for pcsx2 than amd, pcsx2 needs high clocks and no more than 2 cores, if you purchase that pc you will need to overclock cpu, so make sure that mobo in that pc is unlocked for overclocking, which is unlikely, most manufactured pc have locked bios to prevent overclocking. Any cpu you purchase will need at least minor overclock to run most pcsx2 games full speed, the only one that might run most games full speed without overclock is SB 2600k @ 3.4Ghz stock, i hear its faster clock for clock that i7 9xx cpus, which run most pcsx2 games full speed when overclocked to around 3.4Ghz.

None of the ones from Dell has the icore7 or whatever. I don't care for max speed, as long as it is playble? This Pentium D 3.2 shows signs of some being playable, but just way to slow. Are you saying this setup won't give me at least playable speeds?

it will you will get good speeds in most games, but not full speeds in most games, all kingdom hearts, final fantasy, persona games should work full speed, more demanding games such as soulcaliber 3, shadow of colossus, gt4, tekken games, metal gear solid games, wont run full speed. let us know what games specifically you will be running and we can tell you approximately what speeds you can expect and help you with settings to get the best speeds

Mostly just jRPG's. Hence my username. Even FF12 would work? Yes I want to play KH, FF, Dragon Quest, .hack//G.U., I could list all day tho. I don't want to play none of those you said wouldn't do full speed.

FF12 is my fave ps2 game, its should run full speed on 3.2Ghz, works well with recommended speed hacks checked, they dont cause any bugs for that game, i run that game in 1080p its beautiful, make sure u have alpha hack checked and skipdraw at 1, it will fix huge lag at the end of boshes quickening, everything else on stock settings, 5770 supports DX11 so use DX11 hardware for pcsx2 gsdx, and you should be able to run ff12 in 1080p

iv posted a list here of different games you might be interested in, if you want to know what speeds you can expect with the cpu of your choice. this list shows the amount of ghz you need to get full speed so if your game is needing a 4.0ghz cpu then expect 40 ish fps on the 3.2 ghz six core.

also cant you find a setup with a phenom x4? (965 for example) those are higher clocked and put up decent fps in pcsx2.

$980!? I recommend you consider buying parts and building your own at that rate. I built my i5-2500K computer for under $900, and it brings any compatible PS2 game to it's knees thanks to very easy OCing. Even at stock, any SB CPU at 3.0Ghz or more will handle the most demanding games quite well.

Either way, at least consider an Intel. Until we see what Bulldozer brings to the table, Intel has and will be a better choice. As for cost, the Core i line has brought some very competative prices to counter the best thing AMD has going for them.
