Yet another Final Fantasy XII low framerate complaint
#1
I have a bug in FF12. The game running and playable, but sometimes game works very quickly (mods and player run end talk very fast), some times it slow (18-20 fps) and some times work normal.
Music, voice, subtitles flow fast or slow to. I set up some different resolutions, for example 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x1024 , turned off some effects (anty-alising, interlacing), but it not solve this problem.
Used some speed hacks, but they only speed up game on +10fps.
Help me, please.
P.S: Sorry for my English. Unsure

Quote:Speed issues are usually NOT a bug, unless the fluctuation is extreme (like, from 60 to 2 fps...)

however i dont consider that "extreme". the too fast issues can be solved with frame limiting, the others youre on your own.

moving for support issues, however this is not a bug report

That's your problem. FFXII runs generally poorly on ATI cards, and runs really poorly on old ATI cards (anything pre 4xxx series). Known issue, and someone asks about it about twice a week.

I think Saiki has some thread or post where he describes ideal config for speeding up FFXII for ATIs. Users have reported moderate success using it (ie, better fps, but not always full fps). I'd suggest searching his posts/threads for it, but the guy posts like 75 times a day so you're prolly just better off waiting for him to reply here.

download Gsdx 1194, and FFXII need a better card, its works well on native, at 1024*1024 its already not full speed, and your cpu speed is pretty slow, try overclock it but be careful, try installing windows 7 Dx10 might help.

1: that's just in general, not JUST for ATIs
2: Only 75? I think I need to work harder at posting more Tongue Any yes, I got about 35-45 on my 8400GS, I have a 8600GT with 50-60 now Smile

let me know of sucess or failure. PM is the best way to get my attention. if that don't work, I'll give you an ini for it
edit: found my ini I posted Tongue, that's dx10 though (just don't copy the renderer, it should work fine)

edit2: Those are old threads, but even the new ones are the same, so ignore version numbers, they don't matter. as of now, I'm using PCSX2 SVN-1206 (self-compiled), AND GSdx rev. 11** (it's it its own thread) my gfx card has changed, but my settings have not

Now it only little slow sometimes.

Apparently. ATI cards have an overclock utility. May it help?
I also downloaded and installed the latest drivers and updated DirectX, but it was not help.

Give a link, please. I find only beta plugins without Gsdx.

I will try to overclocked it some free time.
Yes, Windows 7 is work faster, I read. But it has trial time limit and it will expire soon. Downloading and installing Windows 7 for one game for little time is a last chance, if another variants do not help.

Ok, I will try. If that don't work I will write to you.
Thanks for your attention.

I would not recommend installing windows 7 rc unless you have other reasons for doing so. I have it installed on another HDD and am pleased with it, but as others have said, the radeon is and will be your bottleneck for FF12.

Microsoft has posted that the trial version of 7 will expire in july 2010 but they will stop handing out beta keys soonish. Mess with it if you want, but don't risk what you already have if you can help it. Dual-booting with another hard drive could be a safer option.

repartioning is a good way to use only 1 hd. I dual boot xubuntu linux and windows vista on the same drive. just food for thought

I think you need to limit the fps at 60 to run the game at the native speed, when the computer can handle it of course.
