Zone of the enders 2 slowdown during Anubis right

In ZoE2, the game pretty much runs flawlessly until you reach Anubis.  It seems no matter what settings I use, the game would just slow to a crawl whenever Anubis is on screen.  I don't know why this is, it's not like he's made out of more polygons or anything.  Does anyone know a fix for this?

Zone of the Enders 2 is known to be one of the most demanding games on the emulator, so that could be normal behaviour.
