ask: ifrit (ffx), basch quickening (ffXII), god hand (lens blur) slowdown
#1
ok, first i know my pc not the fastest on earth for pcsx2 Laugh just curious about the bug n maybe solution

1. FFX ifrit hellfire ,when ifrit render fire at his mouth the fps extremely slowdown until under 10-8 fps (just a few second)
2. ffXII basch sword quickening, when sword stabbed the enemy fps also extremely 10-8 fps slowdown
3. god hand lens flare/depth of field/lens blur, every stage (also cutscene) with those effect i got slowdown (40-30) but if i get stage (also cutscene) without those effect my fps goes 100+ (even last boss with crazy fire effect i still get steady 60-55) *trying software mode it seems the fps more stable no matter what place i get @39fps

my curious is? does my GPU holding me back (coz i read somewhere pcsx2 more cpu intensive??????) or just 7750 cpu to weak for pcsx2 or just those bug existed in sse2 plugin??? (i was saw at youtube someone using e6600@3ghz but using good gpu and gsdx ssse3 get very good fps (limit@60 fps) *dont tell me e6600 clock to clock lot2 faster than kuma 7750 Laugh coz bencmark not say like that at bench my 7750@ 3.2 OC neck to neck with e8300@3ghz)

my spec
cpu x2 7750
gpu hd3300 onboard
ram kingston 667 2x1g @ 5-5-4-5 992
using latest PCSX2 build

thnk's so much for read my noob question Laugh

I don't have god hand but I get those slowdowns on my system too.

Basch Quickening only slow down at the end but I assume that is because the screen is filled with effects...

My Ifrit overdrive doesn't drop from 60 to 10 but from 60 to 40 maybe.

I don't use speed hacks at all, so I don't know if I did, if it would help.

Yeah so to answer your questions, I think these slowdowns are inherent to PCSX2, because of the current hardware, not yours specifically (although it may add to you slowdown) but just the current technology being a bottleneck for what is happening in these scenes.

EDIT: Its been a while since I played those games, well a while in emu years, so I don't know if the latest beta or the latest Gsdx improves on these issues.

But since you stated you have the latest, I don't know. I'd have to check if I still get these slow downs. If I do it's the emu, if not...it could just be your specs.

maybe ur gpu, i have a kuma too, and i dont have problems with ff x, ff x-2(fmv are slowwwwww, but for that i have utube or niconico xD) and ff xii

my specs:
kuma 7750 @ 3.2Ghz
Ati 4550 512 ddr3 64 bit
4Gb ddr2 667mhz
xp 32-bit

oh i forgot this, i have almost all the hack speed enable, hope this help u ^^

yeah i try ffx & ffxii that bug still exist, even aftr that slowdown area its has 80+fps (more complex than slowdown area) mybe its related with some effect) ,oh forgot tell that e6600 from youtube get 60fps is at god hand , maybe in godhand gpu really bottlenecking coz my cpu usage only half (the funny is at egypt stage with lot of enemy without lens blur i get 100 fps, but at single room without enemy but have lens blur i get slowdwn 40 fps

Watch your GSDx window... if it says CPU usage 90%+ when the slowdown occurs, then it's your GPU. If it's below 90% it's a CPU bottleneck and you should try some different speed hacks to see if that helps... though chances are it won't. Many games just have very hard to emulate effects.

the statement that pcsx2 is in general more cpu than gpu limited is no universal rule, the limiting factor in your hardware can change from game to game or from scene to scene even without any obvious visible difference. the cpu usage of the gsdx thread shown in the pcsx2 titlebar is a good indicator for that. try a pre 14xx gsdx revision, they are faster on some games with ati cards (the ffx summonings are e.g.). but don't expect any wonders from that, your integrated gpu is surely the bottleneck in these demanding scenes.

@koji
never saw that cpu usage window @gsdx (only saw cpu usage on the task manager thanks for information)
@zero29
that was i though too (just want to make sure this bug i meet) btw how about using ssse3 or sse4 at ffX ifrit does those slowdown still exist coz amd don't have the instruction

thanks guys for fast replay Laugh

p.s
just try right now, u right koji my cpu usage @gsdx whoooping 99% at those lens blur effect scene

thanks god @boss battle and most of area usually dont get this lens blur effect (only some stage + all cutscene) that's why i can finish this game (what a funny game Laugh)

if u wanna use that u need to change ur ring and i dont think that will be a good idea, besides like i say before my 7750+4550 play fine that games w/o the blur effect.

check with a better gpu, like 4650 or 4670.

The key to remember with the CPU usage on GSDX is that it's only showing the CPU usage of the core that's running the graphic plugin. It doesn't show how far your CPU is being pushed in general.

If it's sitting at 90% or higher, it means your GPU is too slow to keep up with everything and it's straining your processor (and slowing down your game).

About the only solution would be to try using the older GSDx plugin (1398 works great in most games for ATi cards) and running the game in native resolution (not as pretty, but should at least help in those situations)

@ecchiless
yes thanks, btw i do have plan buy a gpu that's why i wan't to know what is bottlenecking me (i was thought that ATi fault(or my SSSe3 unsupported CPU) coz i read somewhere NVIDIA better for PCSX but it seem not from your POV

@koji
yeah u right at lens blur effect my GSDX usage rock stable at 99% lol XD but at non lens blur effect my usage only 70% maybe thats why i can get 80-100 fps at those area
