Please provide your CPU configuration and what speed hacks you are using.

well, your cpu is rather weak for pcsx2 and i'd guess that your gpu won't be the fastest one either, so most 3d games are out. try if the speed hacks help and have a look at this thread for games that run quite good on slower systems: http://forums.pcsx2.net/thread-7807.html

no idea about the crash though, which game is it and are there any errors/warnings visible in the console before the crash?

Speed Hacks don't matter as I find myself doubting you'll be able to run much of anything. Don't people read system requirements?

Try activating All speedhacks x2 cycle rate and VU cycle stealing to moderate, also use "native" checkbox in GSdx. Speed will depend of which games you wanna play... so if you tell us what games are u aiming for we may be able to tell you if they will run well enough.

Yes it is RTM, the public download wont be available yet but I got a leaked one which consists of the same files. I'm currently in the 180-day trial.

I wouldn't be surprised if you are in college and part of the MSDN that you could get the full version soon anyways.
