RE: example of low end pc running some games
People get very confused about what the eye can tell the difference of... Studies show that the human eye perceive video as continuous motion at about 12-15fps depending on the person. The majority of people, if the FPS is below that detect it more like a slide show.

That is NOT to say that 12-15fps is all you need for a perfectly smooth video, only that people viewing it will see it as motion... For perfectly smooth, that greatly varies from person to person. I myself can easily tell the difference between 50fps and 60fps... but I can't as easily tell between 60 and 70. I'm sure there are those that can tell the difference up to 100fps... I can't personally imagine anyone telling beyond that... But it is necessary for things like Nvidia's 3d vision stuff... tuned to 60fps for each eye.

For film 24fps is ok because it has motion blur to make movement look smoother. Videogames are getting better at motion blur but you will always need at least 30fps(preferably 60fps) because videogames have control input and a higher framerate makes control smoother.

There was a study some time ago (can't remember exactly/can't be bothered searching for it again), where a few pilots were tested and could discern differences up to 300FPS or something Wacko

Obviously take that with a grain of salt, but in games, I can definitely see a difference between 30FPS (a bit stuttery) and 60FPS (smooth). I personally wouldn't call anything under 45FPS to be 'playable', but obviously that's an opinion and everyone is entitled to have one (the best thing is their FREE Smile ).

the human eye cant process any thing over 24FPS, witch is right, but it does depend on ur system, like i play COD4 online, and i get around 30FPS or more, and i do run in wireless alot, so i do get stutter, becuz it can not send the packets fast enough at 30FPS or higher, i hook it up to the Ethernet cored and if i cap COD4 FPS 30, i will not stutter 1 bit, but yes i would like it over 30FPS, witch i mean y not!! but for shooter games or raceing games, best 2 hv it around 40FPS or higher, and if u do stutter around 40FPS, its not cuz u can see the frames skip like that, its ur system, try lowering the details even if u seem 2 get good FPS, less things for the computer 2 process, and cap the FPS, if your FPS keeps going up then way bk down, but not down 2 like 30FPS, ur gonna get video lag, its good 2 keep at a certain FPS or simply turn on Vsync

best 2 get a game system, lol
computers do get a lil confusing

Why would there be so much technology and software driven at things higher than that? If the human eye could not detect above it, there'd be no need at all for anything that can do greater... And I can tell you that I personally can tell a huge difference between a video played at 24fps and one played at 60... And I don't even have very good eye sight ^_^. Just a bit of research I pulled off of google in the matter of 10 seconds, a very worthy read.

http://www.100fps.com/how_many_frames_ca...ns_see.htm

Basically, the long and short of it is... the crisper the image, the more FPS is necessary to make it smooth. The blurrier the image, the less frames you need to make it smooth... As games venture towards more "realism" (IE throwing tons of pointless and ugly filters to everything...) then FPS matters less... But can still make a huge mountain of difference...

yes 24 FPS is low, thats why thats y i would like 60FPS or higher is good, but any higher is all just bragging rights, and well 24FPS is low as u said, but it is playable, and that is what this topic is about, in MMORPG games such as WoW, anything over 20FPS would be fine, but u will lag if u only get 20FPS when u start a battle, every game is different, Race Driver Grid u want over 40FPS if u run Motion Blur, turn that off and u can run that game just fine at 30FPS, so really at anything over 24FPS is good if ur not a constant gamer

Uh I think the 24fps thing is about the least the human eye perceives as smooth, doesnt mean it cant process anything higher like you said at first it's different concepts.
