i have q6600 2.4 ghz..mother board intel dg35...video card ati 4850hd
pcsx2 is slow for me in most of the games especially mgs3....
is overclocking advisable for my cpu??coz already 4850 temp is around 70 while playing games....
after overclocking can i reduce the speed to default one??
and i have 500 w power supply no extra coolers.......
and my room dont have AC.....
can i overclock to 3.1ghz without attaching any cooler?
or wht is the minimum speed to overclock without any coolers???
last thing is how to overclock??????????????
do i need to do it in bios config or i have to open my cabinet???

What games are you trying to play? What build of pcsx2 are you using? What plugins are you using?

That rig should run most games fine, but some like MGS3 and Shadow of the Colossus will really push it, doubt you'll be getting a consistent 60 fps. I'd wait until the next PCSX2 edition is released if you want better performance in MGS3, with some tweaking you could get SotC to work.

Also you can overclock the CPU entirely through the bios.

I advise not overclocking your cpu especially from 2.4Ghz to 3.1Ghz if you really dnt know what your doing. best find other ways to increase your speed.

Post your config maybe we can find a thing or 2 that can help the speed.
Laptop Rig:

Core 2 Duo @ 1.8Ghz
3 gb DDR2-800 RAM

Windows Vista Buisness 32-Bit

Desktop Rig:

P4 HT @ 3.0Ghz
3 gb DDR2-533 RAM
256mb ATI X1300

What do you mean? Like running 3.1 GHz overclocked quadcore CPU without any cooler or just with BOX cooler without any additional cooling?

If it`s the second case - yes, you could, if you`re lucky. But learn something about overclocking first.
If it`s the first - well, don`t even think about it. :-)

I highly recommend an after market cooler if you want to do any overclocking on the Q6600. Especially if you don't have any AC in your room. They run hot enough on stock speeds Tongue

thanks for the replies..........
i use pcsx2 0.96 and in mgs 3 i can get around 45-55 in game.......thats more than enough o play but cut scenes are laggy and sound stutters........mgs without cutscene is no good Sad . Based don ur suggestions and some googling its better that i skip over clocking. Coz my mother board doesnt support overclocking and i have to apply a BSEL mod to overclock...i am taking no risksSmile
and i have a BOX cooler......i ll try with ISO may be tht ll boost the speed
one more thing does mgs 3 shows any improvement in DX10???
and how it plays in VISTA and windows 7??

i am using GSDX plugin tht comes with 0.96 default settings and using all the speed hacks....thanks again guys

I know that with vista it faster than XP, so if you are using vista make sure your using DirectX 10 as it gives a speed to boost than DX9.

Not to sure on windows 7.
