i5U processors versus i5M, significant difference?
#1
Slightly outside the realm of "will my computer run the PSX2", a little more ambiguous, so I feel it deserves its own thread.

The Intel U processors are "ultra efficient".
The Intel M, being "Mobile".

I believe in general the M's are regarded as having a higher operating frequency, and generally being better.

For those who have experience with them, do they find in terms of running this emulator, that the M version performs significantly better?

I was comparing the processors from a Lenovo thinkpad, to a Hewlet Packard, each with i5's, but one being the former, one the later, and I was curious as to how big a difference in performance exists, given the substantial price difference.

Taking the exact comparison there by example, they both seem virtually identical.

Is there something I'm missing out on there?
Is the M version actually superior in some way; just there's some information not being disclosed in them charts?

With a similar base operating frequency, and a difference in the turbo frequency of 0.2 GHz, would that amount to a significant variation in processor performance; i.e. impact the potential functionality of the emulator?

Intel Core i5-4288U @ 2.60GHz -> STR : 1826 (https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i5-4288U+%40+2.60GHz&id=2074)
Intel Core i5-4200M @ 2.50GHz-> STR : 1679 (https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu...40+2.50GHz&id=2016)
this is where the main difference lies...
CPU : AMD Ryzen 7 3800X
Mobo : Asus PRIME B450-PLUS
GPU : NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070
RAM : 16 Go

That website is confusing as hell, but...

...yeah, the seem almost identical (except in.... value for money?)

Intel Core i5-4288U @ 2.60GHz -> STR : 1826
Intel Core i5-4200M @ 2.50GHz-> STR : 1679

~10% difference in single thread performance(this is important for pcsx2). The choice is up to you.

Pfff, damn these things get confusing.

it was actually the i5-4300M

Intel Core i5-4288U @ 2.60GHz -> STR : 1826
Intel Core i5-4300M @ 2.60GHz-> STR : 1850

The latter being the Lenovo thinkpad.

I'm guessing they're pretty much identical?

Either way, the general feeling seems to be that thread rating could handle the PSX2 playing Metal Gear solid, resident evil, final fantasy and the GTA series.

metal gear will have slow downs more than likely. GTA probably won't. RE and FF should be fine. -

In terms of these budget machines, a rig with the i5-4288U would probably offer the best value for money here though, when the alternative would be a machine with dedicated graphics card, i.e. big step up in price.

Would I be correct in saying that?

That's not the realm of performance but power saving.

I'm being a little pernickety at this point but, I'm also comparing this i5-4288U with an i7-4700MQ

I'm seeing their STR's are almost the same, but the CPU rating is vastly higher for the i7.
The clockspeed is slightly higher for the i5.

In terms of emulation performance, does that basically translate as the i7 being much better?
Or simply a better value processor or what?

Okay, bare in mind I'm a newbie here.

You mean to say a dedicated graphics card has little bearing on emulation ability, and that it's more down to the processor/STR...?
