ok, we'll stop off topic here, and I won't try to explain you since you're so "experienced"
@OP : to clarify things, since you have a weak GPU, software mode may give you better performances than hardware mode.
except for games that are GPU dependant (15-20% PS2 games) a fairly old GPU (8600 GT, 9600 GS) will give you better performances in hardware mode as long as you don't push gsdx internal res too high.
Keep that in mind for your next tries
