Can someone shed some light as to what this exactly is?

Features:
  • Reduces PCSX2 startup memory use significantly -- from ~150-200megs to ~30-40megs.
  • Reduces overall PCSX2 memory usage by some small amount (not very significant).**
  • Eliminates need to reset recompilers when increasing recompiled cache sizes (speedup for some select games).
  • Will have PS2 memory mapped to specific addresses***, which is very useful when using 3rdparty cheat programs.
** Actual memory savings depend on game mostly -- some simpler games, like GUST/Nippon Ichi games, will use a lot less memory with the new system. Other games like some Tri-Ace games may actually use more memory, but should run a bit faster/smoother.

*** Memory being mapped to a specific address may not always be successful, depending on the version operating system you're running, and various drivers/services you might have installed.

Why not just have where the base memory is in the main window status bar or logged in the console at the start of the game?
