pcsx2 running slow during gameplay on dragon quest 8
#1
hey, just wondering if any1 can help. i have pcsx2 0.9.7 and when i try and play dragon quest 8 it starts fine running at around 55-60fps, but as soon as i start to try and play the game it drops to 3-9 fps. my pc specs should be fine as i played ffx and ffXII last year, but i lost the ps2 emulator and downloaded again last night. iv tried version 0.9.6 but whenever i press load cd/dvd (even when booting an iso file) the program instantly closes. i cant post my specs/setup atm as im not at home, but can any1 recomend a good setup? iv forgot how i had my old emulator set up. thanks :o

You need a Phenom II, or Athlon II running at 3.8 GHz to get 48 to 60 FPS.
You need a Core2 or i-series running at about 3.4 GHz for the same result.

You can get it to run at 2x or 3x scaling if you have a GeForce GTX 260 or better (or the ATI Equivalent).

However, there are several brownish 'flashback' cutscenes in the game that require you to switch to "Software Mode" in order to view them, and they are really slow.
Thankfully, there are very few of them.

All of the above pertains to the NTSC USA Version.

Other than the aforementioned few in-game cutscenes/FMVs playing slow, the game is completable to 100%.

If you can overclock your i7 950 to at least 3.4 GHz, you should have fullspeed most of the time, and be able to run at 3x scaling or higher with your nVidia GTX 460.

DQ8's main issue is that it requires a fast, overclocked CPU in order to run at an acceptable speed, so if 3.4 GHz isn't fast enough, try overclocking a little higher, to say, about 3.8 GHz. Wink
