wondering about playing Import games/ what kind of PC would I need
#1
Right now, I just have a US PS2, If I were to buy the import games and download this program, would it let me play them on my PC?

I'm looking into a new PC too. Would this build be good for PCSX2?

AMD Phenom X4 965 3.4Ghz
ASUS M4A79XTD EVO motherboard
4 GB PC3 12800 DDR3 1600Mhz memory
500 GB Hitachi hard drive
22x LG SATA Lightscribe Dual Layer DVD+/-R DVD RAM
ATI Radeon HD5770

That PC would be great for PCSX2, only a very few games that have some compatibility issues would have any problem with speed. All compatible games should run fine on that system.

And yes, PCSX2 plays imports perfectly fine. I have 2 gundam games I imported (Generations of CE and Federation versus ZAFT 2 PLUS) and they work great, just play PS2 plus swap disc only without all that annoying swapping Wink

Is it hard to set up the program?

Will it just be
1) download
2) unzip and install
3) put in a game
4) play

or is there more to it than that?

I will probably get my new PC in January sometime. That is the build I've been looking at.

Yes, those are great specs, though you forgot to put "II" on the cpu name (should be phenom II x4)

You can also opt for a geforce 250gts or 260 as an alternate gpu choice. GSDX likes nvidia cards.

More to it than that, but if you read and follow the configuration guide (it's a sticky topic on this forum) you shouldn't have any problem setting it up.

(edit) Mackoyski: The ATi bug is fixed in SVN which what was causing most of the slowdowns in the older GSDx. Even then, a modern GPU of either manufacturer will be more than enough for PCSX2.

Is that all thats causing the slowdown, Koji? Is that the slow texture upload speed that Air was talking about?

Now I'm excited.

I know this controller is terrible for a PS3, but would it be good for this purpose?

Depends, why was it bad for PS3? Cause it's corded and not wireless? Besides that, it looks like a good PS2 controller clone... and really any controller clone should work fine as long as it has enough buttons.

Mac: All problems? I honestly don't know as I don't have any nvidia to compare to, but my 3850 now plays is it did on 1398 revision (last good revision for me) and it more than plays any game I toss at it fine at at least 2x native res of games and most games being fine at 3x. That said, if there is a noticable difference between the two hardware wise, it's probably far more obvious on the low end than the mid to high end. The 5770 will play any PS2 game fine at 3x and most at 4x+. The nvidia equivalent may do better, but it's not likely to be much and buying a brand new video card to go DX10 wouldn't likely be the best course of action... and it's not looking like Nvidia will have their dx11 line out by january.
