Ah, well I'm sorry for misunderstanding, and hope nobody takes my miscommunication for its word. But now a new question arises. If such is the case about the ds3 controller's Bluetooth, how come most earlier iterations of wii remotes can connect via Bluetooth without there own drivers?
I mean obviously they won't work on there own in windows without the help of third party software, but according to most wiki's, they can be paired.
@worlann: it would not be impossible, however it would require significantly more time, resources and maintenance for such a project. With the wide availability of low priced Bluetooth Dongles having one dedicated to DS3 use does not seem unreasonable.
@shinra358: your opinion is just not supported by fact.
Gampad manufacturers : Logitech, Thrustmaster, Speedlink, Trust, Saitek, Kinobo, etc.
Sony Vaio - ships with Windows, Sony Phones - my phone works with Windows Bluetooth, installs drivers from Windows Update when plugged in via USB. PS3 Remote - works with Windows Bluetooth. Cameras/Videocams etc.
The only Sony devices to my knowledge that don't work in a Windows environment are Sixaxis/DualShock3/Motion Controller. To suggest that Microsoft could/would deny Sony the right to distribute a driver for any product is just not reality (anti-trust).
My take : Sony haven't released drivers because they simply do not want DS3s to be usable in Windows. They want them to be usable only on PS3, and this will primarily have been a Marketing decision of Sonys.
Fair enough, I figured that was the case.
Kinobo, Saitek, and Trust have circle dpads.
Speedlink has separated dpads but they still look different from ps dpads and do not work as pleasant for fighters.
Thrustmaster has circle dpads and one with a cross dpad with a small circle coming from the middle. That slight difference is to keep them from getting sued.
Logitech have circle dpads and they are outright horrible. Not to mention their wired version is discontinued/rare. And if you find one, they are expensive than normal. In fact most versions of these controllers have been discontinued and hard to find/buy. Most controllers have these different dpads because they can't exactly use the ones that nintendo and sony have without paying royalties. Circle dpads are just not good at all. They are either poor for fighting games and/or break too easily.

Providing things for windows are different than consoles. Sony have their own computers, but not their own OS. So they aren't competing there. They are however competing in the console market. But it is really more like microsoft doesn't want ppl to buy ps3 pads over their xbox pads. And I'm sure xbox in some form told them that it was not allowed. their is no other explanation as to why there arent any xinput controls for ps3 controllers. The XYAB should be a clue in xinput games. Sony having XYAB for their controllers? They don't want that. Developers USED to port their games over to the PC with PS buttons, but ever since microsoft layed down the law with xinput, nobody does it anymore. Arc Sys Works was one of the companies that used PS button schemes on windows before xinput.
"Sony haven't released drivers because they simply do not want DS3s to be usable in Windows." ~ that's half of what I'm saying. Only that I'm thinking it goes both ways. Neither want to give the other an advantage in the scene. That's where the "exclusive wars" are stemming from as well.
@shinra358: "That is why we don't see alot of other controllers being made by other companies that much anymore for pc." Simply not true - plenty of manufacturers out there producing gamepads, whether or not they want to pay royalties for patents held by other companies is their choice and somewhat irrelevant.
"And I'm sure xbox in some form told them that it was not allowed. their is no other explanation as to why there arent any xinput controls for ps3 controllers." - supposition on your part, not supported by any published article I've ever seen.
Whether it's XInput or DInput, Sony has not published any drivers for DS3s for Windows.
Have you considered that Windows Games Developers don't support DS3 Buttons because DS3s don't work in Windows?
Anyway, my last contribution to this discussion.
Thank you for your explanation, Scarlet. I believe you're right. I've used a lot of Sony's products over the last two decades and, based on my experience and what happened to some of the technologies (e.g. MD), my opinion about Sony is that its worst enemy by far has always been Sony.
I don't understand why everybody on the internet always sound like they are trying argue over everything said whether friendly or not.
"Anyway, my last contribution to this discussion." ~ that doesn't sound very friendly and it was not that serious
Since when has a main console company that are still in business make something specifically for the other team.
"Have you considered that Windows Games Developers don't support DS3 Buttons because DS3s don't work in Windows?" - we have plugins like yours and others now and it has been some time since motioninjoy, tamamy, and x360ce were created. Sony never made any controller work for pc but we had adapters back then and some developers made ps style buttons for games (a small few though). These plugins are basically the adapters of old times. I mean they could put a selection to choose ps style buttons as a choice but they dont. instead, they still have the numbers or the xbox buttons because they are competing. Every sony controller was never supported on pc. We had to rely on 3rd parties to make adapters and plugins. Even though this was the case back then, those few companies decided to use psx buttons. DS1 and DS2 have been around for a long time. If it was because DS3s dont work the reason why they don't do psx buttons anymore, then what about all the DS2s and DS1s that did.
Anyways, nice work and I hope ppl use this more than motioninjoy for it does have the better desired format. Have a good one.
Since all those were unofficial the devs aren't going to support the buttons that way shinra.
so what have i missed post beta 1 ?
Hi, guys. Just found this thread and thought I'd jump in.
I'd like to try the Bluetooth wrapper out, but my dongle doesn't seem to be supported. It's a D-Link (USB\VID_07D1&PID_F101), but of course I can't just drop the ID into BthWinUsb.inf or it starts complaining about digital signatures. Scarlet - if you could add support for it, that would be just awesome of you.
(Might be worth mentioning that the dongle does work with Motioninjoy, so I don't think there would be any hardware issues.)
On another note, the pure-USB wrapper
does work great. Thanks for finally giving us an alternative to Motioninjoy.
