Your problem sounds like a video (GS) plugin issue.
You can ignore the GIFTAG warnings.
I also, get than GIFTAG error when booting into BIOS. Simply ignore that.

Which version of PCSX2 do you use, there is some issue with 0.9.8 (zzogl) and geforce7 ? And which game btw?

http://forums.pcsx2.net/Thread-Unofficial-linux-build you can get anothers graphics plugins GSdx in sofware mode. Because it does not use yet the GPU it need a powerful CPU (well could be ok for 2d games)!
