It's a 6870, by the way.

I've tried Dark Cloud but it seems to be very laggy unless I allow 8-bit textures, then it's still off by 5fps and it looks terrible. I use the 6th preset and the 3D11 hardware driver on native resolution.
Any settings that might magically fix this before I consider getting an 8-core?
That card should be able to handle *at least* 3x res... As for CPU, try speedhacks like MTVU
8-core..........???????? which processor supports 8-cores.. Tongue2 Smile Its 8 threads i.e 4 Cores. Tongue2

Whats the EE/GS% when you get slowdowns?

Try these settings :
  • Change the Round mode to Nearest and Clamp Mode to None in Both EE and VU's section.
  • Use Speedhacks : All the Reccomended ones and EE Cyclerate to 2 and VU Cycle Stealing to 1
  • Use Native Resolution
  • Try frameskip (Not sure about this)
  • Use Allow 8-bit Texture
  • Change Windows Power Plan to High Performance : Important

Just tested it using the settings you recommended (not frameskip, used it before and I hated it) and it works fine! However, the resolution won't change off of 640x448 and 8bit textures suck Tongue but even so, thank you very much.

EDIT: I'm using GSdx 4879 SSE2 0.1.16 by the way.
Direct3D11, no interlacing, native res, allow 8bit

EDIT EDIT: And the eight core processor is AMD FX8150

You would see negligible gains with that CPU vs your current one.

If you want to spend money on a CPU to go faster in PCSX2 than what you have now, you'd get an Intel Sandy Bridge.
Please don't go with AMD FX Series. Better go with Intel I5/I7 2500K/2600K processor.

Do you work for Intel? Tongue
I'd guess he's working for 'reason' Tongue
The FX8150 would probably be slower than your current CPU.
Yes, they're that bad Tongue2

No! But I do not prefer The AMD FX Series at all. I've heard that many PC Games also run slow on it. Not much slow but slow comparitvely to Intels one. Tongue2
