Hello.
I gave up buying a Core i5, and I will wait for 1 or 2 years. My Mobo is LGA 775, it supports Pentium Dual Core, Core 2 Duo, Core 2 Quad and, of course, Pentium 4.

My PC:
-Pentium 4 @ 2.9 GHz (Very good, 6 years of life without problems.)
-2GB DDR2 RAM
-Nvidia Geforce 9600 GT (My old GPU stopped working two years ago and I had to buy a new GPU. It explains components from different generations.)
I did the miracle of playing Sonic Generations with rare slowdowns on my PC. I need to buy a new CPU to play some PC games, such as TES: Skyrim and Dragon Age Origins. Core 2 Duo E6600 or Pentium Dual Core E6200 will be enough.

I want to play some low demanding PS2 games at fullspeed on stock, without overclock, and with all needed speedhacks.
-Final Fantasy X (Will the CPUs that I said above be able to run it?)
-Final Fantasy XII (What is the cheapest LGA775 CPU that is able to run it? )
-God of War 1 and 2 (Are they playable with a LGA775 CPU?)

A C2D E8xxx is very expensive for a simple upgrade.
I would like to play at least FF10, FF12 would be better. If GoW requirements are very expensive, I will give up on GoW for now.

Cheap S775 CPU with no overclocking for low-mid end current PCSX2 state PS2 emulation huh.. that would be.. in order if you can't get the top one cause of price or availability..

*Probably your best value as that model has always been.

Thats all I would say, those Penryn quadcores are great but any lower and stock speed is just too slow, even a stock Q9550 is a bit slow for the current state of PS2 emulation.. I would NOT recommend any dual cores anymore, too much saturation on just 2 threads for many games and especially PCSX2(threading overhead can be quite ugly).

Are you sure your mobo supports all that? Not every 775 mobo supports every 775 chip

Many do such as the Asus P5WDH Deluxe which was one of my S775 boards at the time of Pentium 4 -> Core 2 transition.

well then. let's pop the question. as the guys don't even ask. to help get compat support.

what specific mainboard do you have Zack?

Does not PCSX2 support just 2 cores?

I do not remember exactly, but my mobo is Asus P5???? (maybe P5KPL).
But I know that it supports most Core 2 Duo, Core 2 Quad and Pentium Dual Core, I read the manual many years ago.

Since it supports Core2 Duo/Quad your next step is to find out whether or not the newer 45nm Penryn CPUs are supported.

that "maybe P5KPL" doesn't help much. just open the case and read the sticker on it to make sure.

as for the P5KPL: they all support the 45nm CPUs per default or via BIOS update.
