I started running ffX and everything was fine then once the opening video plays the screen goes black but you can still hear sound. The emulator says gsdx: m_merge is NULL!

In order to help you further with your problem, please make sure the following are all provided.

• Your hardware specs - CPU, Graphics Card, Memory, Operating System.
  
• The version of PCSX2 you are using.
  
• Any non default settings you are using.
  
• What games you are trying to play and if you are playing them from ISO or DVD.

Still do what Jesalvein wrote(pasted;P), but in case you're using FXAA(especially activated permanently in GSdx.ini) in pair with custom internal res, you can try changing internal res to multiplier(ie. x2, x3...) couse only once I saw this problem till now and it was just FXAA disliking custom internal res(through it wasn't in FF, but I guess I never tried such mix with it either).

update to 0.9.8, you're using 0.9.6
